That's me lol, my girlfriend has absolutely zero interest in the movie and we're still abiding by COVID restrictions so $30, when I'm already subscribing to Disney+, is just laughable to me, never gonna happen
Regardless of what it costs, having to pay per month for a service and then have to pay a shit load extra one time fee to watch something on that service is bullshit.
I also go to the movies on discount night and smuggle in snacks, so movie night for me most definitely doesn't cost $30 lol
It is so disappointing to see regular people defend a corporation's practice like this. When Netflix debuts a new movie on their service, there is no separate fee. It is gouging the consumer and seeing if they can get away with it.
The difference is these movies were meant to be put into theaters both by scale and budget and the only reason they’re not is a global pandemic. If this continues into next year, then that is ridiculous, but given the circumstances I understand them wanting to find a way to make some money of these multi million dollar projects that are inevitably going to operate at a loss now. Though this will be a test if people feel safe going into theaters and may actually do ok in the box office.
I don't think anyone is defending Disney here. They're just understanding from a business perspective why they're doing it. It isn't right, but these are strange times. When it's completely safe to go back to the cinema and they still do this? Then that's a different story.
4 of the movies Disney has released directly to Disney+ all have Asian Female lead actresses Mulan Raya and the Last Dragon Cruella Black Widow
She was in the adaptation of Ghost in the Shell as a character who is Asian in the animated version. Lotta controversy around it. The memes followed not long after.
She said something along the lines of since she's an actress she should be able to play any role she wants a while back too right? lol
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. And I don't care what you and your wife do, you can't tell me "YOU'D" spend more, because I never have. Okay, but HBO is releasing GvK for free. And Kombat, not to mention ZS' JL. Not a good argument, at all. Even Prime is getting big theater releases straight to their service.
I have no issue paying $30 for this. I do not feel like I am being gouged. $30 at home, repeated viewings, pause when I want to > $12 for a ticket + ~$20 for popcorn/soda. But to each their own. I totally understand Disney trying to recoup lost box office revenue.
It’s a decent argument cuz none of those movies would make as much at the box office as these Disney movies Does Disney need to charge $30? Probably not but it’s well worth it for what the poster above me said - repeated viewings comfort at own home etc
you would be able to get repeat viewings in a matter of months anyways through the service asking you to pay extra to watch it repeat times. every marvel movie is on disney plus.
Right and if people want to wait that’s totally fine too - there’s an option for everyone Disney+ is so cheap to begin with (even cheaper if you bundle it) that even if you spent $90 on all 3 premier access movies you still be paying the same monthly amount as HBO Max haha
HBO Max didnt charge extra for Wonder Woman 1984 and that is absolutely comparable to what these Disney movies would have made in the theater. That argument doesn’t fly either. Disney is absolutely gouging people.
You’re paying double for HBO max over Disney+ so it’s actually the same price year over year lol no one is getting gouged
You paying paying double for HBO Max so it makes sense why they don’t charge anything for you to watch a new movie (for only one month) if Disney was charging $15 a month plus $30 for premier access then that would be a gouging
Depending on whether it's a monthly or yearly subscription, you pay between 40 to 100 more for HBO Max a year.
