This is such a tricky scenario, so I want to be careful with my words as I express my thoughts.

It sucks that Boseman died. It's tragic for all involved, and I fully understand they want to show respect to him and what he created. I also understand that even if they wanted to recast the role, that means finding someone willing to step into those shoes, and I'm not sure that they would. And that's also understandable.

That being said, I'm trying to think of how they're going to explain T'Challa's absence in universe and if there's a way to do it that won't be tacky, convoluted, or disrespectful in and of itself. It's not that I feel they can't tell a story in Wakanda without Panther, of course they can, but they can't just dance around the issue either.

The best case scenario at this point in my mind is that they change their mind, they find someone willing to continue the role, and they knock it out of the park. Clearly that's not going to happen.

 

I strongly agree with this. I just feel Black Panther is just so iconic and without having any personal connection to Boseman, I believe that he would want that character to live on and to continue to inspire.

I would love to see John David Washington in the role. I feel like he could definitely bring the gravitas and humility that role needs.

 

Wait so we want to recast T'Challa and Shuri?

 

I guess there are solid reasons for both

 

I mean, I guess I'm fine with keeping Shuri as long as T'Challa gives her the stinkeye every so often.

 

If Letitia keeps being a dumbass I'd be fine with recasting her

If she leaves will they have to refilm Black Panther 2?

 

Of course, the whole thing was reportedly built around her becoming the new Black Panther. They'll have to scrap everything they already did and rewrite the movie entirely.

Hopefully they make Winston Duke the new Black Panther.

Imagine being given the opportunity to headline Marvel Studios’ current biggest ongoing franchise, and honor your dead friend in the process… only to throw it away, not because of appropriate moral issues with Disney or creative issues with Marvel, but because you can’t overcome your vaccine paranoia.

If this ends up being true, and she doesn’t realize she’s wrong and do a major about face ASAP, it’s gonna be so incredibly sad to watch.

 

This is such a mess. I feel bad for Coogler, man.

And would make her the first black female "super hero" in the MCU, right? I feel like I'm missing someone, but pretty sure it was just her and and Okoye and Nakia but they're all not "supers".

I guess Monica Rambeau counts but we haven't really seen what her story means yet

 

Imagine being upgraded to the lynchpin of a franchise and just quitting cuz you don't want a simple pinch in your arm. lol
