How will that work with the rest of the MCU and avenger films. By the time the kid is grown up it will be phase 8 or 9

Second snap. Then we can get Maestro and Old Man Logan.

Just have him grow up faster through very convoluted plot shenanigans. Worked for Cyclops’ and Superman’s families.

Hickman was actually gonna give Storm & T’Challa a kid who’d be aged up through shenanigans with Fantomex & “The World,” but Marvel pulled the plug on that last minute (after part of the story had already been completed).

fuck why is so much of my brain occupied with useless Marvel trivia

Just use whatever comic book magic you want. I mean, who knows where the MCU will be at by the time a third Black Panther even happens. They have so many characters right now that I have no idea what they’re gonna do with, plus bringing in the X-Men and Fantastic Four. I’d be surprised if it happens in four years like this one.

On our way into this movie, some random child just tried to grab my sister’s Icee. :pantherworried: He just quietly scurried up and grabbed it, she went into daycare worker mode & said “no,” and he let go & quietly scurried off.

    Update:

After the movie (which I quite enjoyed), my sister went to the bathroom. Apparently right before she went in, this same small boy walked out, made eye contact with her, smiled, and walked into the men’s bathroom on the other side.

this was a mess. i feel bad saying that because its due to the film being forced to do so many things it never would have had to do if not for a tragedy. but all the same it is an overstuffed mess. man. disappointing. i really don’t know where the mcu goes from here if it can’t nail this one. tenoch and angela rocked but sheesh.

Seeing this tomorrow but I feel like there’s no way it can be as bad as Thor 4 or Dr Strange 2

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

it is much better than those, and I loved Dr Strange 2 lol

I would suggest calling an exorcist

Yeah it was definitely better than Doctor strange 2 and Thor 4, I’d also put it above Eternals and Black Widow, but it’s not as good as Shang-Chi and No Way Home

They mentioned it on The Big Picture podcast, but Riri feels very close to America Chavez in Doctor Strange 2 as a plucky teen who’s probably an interesting character, but the movie just doesn’t have much time for her.

I had a similar thought, and Riri had even less to do than America did.

The highs of this are probably some of Marvel Studios' highest highs, and there's not really anything I disliked in it per se, but it's not really better than the sum of its parts. Thankfully for me, "the sum of its parts" is still pretty good! And, the Chadwick Boseman of it all skews with the objectivity and gives it a lot more impact; one of my friends cried a lot.

That final confrontation between Shuri & Namor fell a bit shy of what it could've been, but I did love that it was playing in the same territory as Black Panther's first arc in Civil War. Appropriate and effective thematic choice there, which would've hit a lot better if the rest of the film had fallen into place better to lead up to it. The actual fight between them worked surprisingly well for making me not root for either of them, instead rooting for them to stop, which is a hard thing to nail when they're also making the action look cool. (Weirdly, Raya and the Last Dragon is one of the most successful instances of this I can think of. I love Logan, but it has that "have your cake & eat it too" thing where the Wolverines cutting everyone up is badass.) And yet, that still gets muddied by our other heroes being cool as they fight the not-Atlanteans. This genre can only go so far down that route before breaking down, I suppose. Showing that big guy Okoye repeatedly fights when Shuri's underwater with Namor, happy with his family or something, would've made that theme work a lot better.

All in all, I liked this a lot and would place it in the upper tier of Marvel Cinematic Universe content, while also using it as evidence that all of this has run its course for me. Very content to see Guardians 3, and then tap out until... maybe Secret Wars, for old times' sake? Very eager for Ryan Coogler to direct a non-franchise film.

Lake Bell should have been in the MCU much sooner
so was it the same orca that they kept riding around
Winston Duke and Michaela Coel should have been in every scene in this and every other movie

Thought this was great all things considered. Entirely too long and slow and some points. Shoulda cut the whole CIA subplot

Not that she’s the most famous person in the world but why the hell did they hire Lake Bell for…. That role

yeah it seems pretty clear they cut a pretty important scene from her character in the 11th hour

From what Reddit said, she was meant for a post-credits scene and that got cut. But who knows.
