With Marvel planning films 5 years in advance they most likely just had way too much material that depended on Black Panther and his/her absence would shuffle up future plans.

 

Between all the projects in the works & the adjusted schedule due to COVID, moving forward on Black Panther that soon is just a very weird, not great choice. But, hey, corporations gotta produce their content, I guess?

And, yeah, I call bullshit on Marvel having some rigid plan that required a Black Panther movie to shoot next summer, lol.

 

There’s also the possibility that other actors involved have contracts saying when shooting is supposed to be and pushing it out would lose their involvement. That being said, you’re already missing the biggest piece so why not?

 

All I know is that Marvel plans their universe of interconnected films 5 years in advances, according to their president.

It sucks, but I don’t think anyone could have convinced themselves of anything else when millions, if not billions, of dollars are on the line.

 

I'm totally cool with them beginning filming with Shuri as the lead. I'm sure it will do a good job paying its respects to T'Challa, they wouldn't want to piss off the fans.

 

She had already tested suits during the production of BO 1, so Coogler may have already planned for her to suit up in the sequel, which is by far best-case scenario.

I could see it being maybe contract or schedule related... but, given how much COVID has already shifted things around, I would think Chadwick’s passing would be reason enough to delay further. Unless Ryan Coogler already has an idea on how to respectfully proceed that everyone’s onboard for?

Why would anyone still sincerely buy into this narrative this strongly? There’s never been a moment in time when they 100% knew what was coming 5 yrs down the road; we know this for a fact because their plans have publicly shifted many times over the years.

 

(Still think the best short term solution is to make a movie set in Wakanda that’s not directly a Black Panther film per se, so that they don’t have to recast, kill off, or otherwise write out T’Challa yet. But whatever.)

 

Nothing major, if I recall from the last 6 years of the MCU. Plot lines for Infinity War/Endgame were before Civil War, Downey knew the fate of Stark in 2015, Gunn knew Gamora’s fate before Guardians 2 started filming, Strange’s role from his solo film to Endgame was in the cards before the solo had finished production, etc.

While tonal shifts such as Ragnorak (the approach of Thor wasn’t decided until the director was chosen) have happened, there isn’t enough evidence to say that Feige is a straight-up liar. Saying that plans for Black Panther to be present in several future plans is pretty baseless considering the sequel was locked and loaded for a release date almost 1.5 years ago.

 

Feige isn’t a liar per se, but he’s infamously good at playing coy in interviews. It’s a PR version of reality.

I believe that they always have rough plans penciled in for the next however many years at a time. But, I don’t believe that Feige is the Batman of comic book movie-making, lol.

Marvel gained, then lost, then regained Spider-Man (describing each step as if it were exactly what they were planning on). They lost Inhumans. They added an Ant-Man sequel before Endgame. They moved Eternals after Shang-Chi. Guardians 3 moved back a while because of the James Gunn stuff. The first Ant-Man was in the works at the same time as the earliest “Phase One” films. Spider-Man & Captain Marvel were potentially gonna show up at the end of Age of Ultron. They weren’t sure if they were gonna do Eternals ‘til Chloé Zhao’s pitch sold them on it. They had War Machine & Runaways films in development that never materialized.

I hate that so much of that useless information is in my brain, lol, but it is, & who know how much I’m overlooking, or that’s never been publicly revealed?

So, the idea that their plans are just too set in stone to move BP2 back a little if necessary is ludicrous.

 

Fair enough. Some of those points show that considerable adjustments have been made. I still wouldn’t throw out the possibility that Marvel may have wanted Black Panther to be a major player in the upcoming films to the same extent as Thor, Cap, or Iron Man were in the previous films. Ultimately, this is just my line of thinking based on Black Panther’s popularity and the need for the newer heroes to take over.

 

I had no idea there were plans for a Runaways film and now I'm incredibly bummed that never happened lol.

Oh well, loved the show anyways!

It was a blessing in disguise. The show gave us hours of content where as a film would’ve rushed the story in 2 hours.

 

Eh, I would’ve loved a Runaways film & have not watched any of the show yet (after initially being excited for it). But, that’s mainly on my own entertainment consumption habits.

 

The show is great. The pacing gets a bit slow at times but I definitely recommend it. I think the entire show is only 33 episodes.

Runaways was fantastic and I love how fleshed out they made the parents. There were definitely some considerable differences from the comic and had some cheesiness at times, but it still worked and I felt they captured the spirit of the comics well. The kids were perfectly cast, especially Niko and Alex. And also impressed that they used Old Lace at all with a TV show budget.

Still bummed it ended on the cliffhanger of potentially introducing a major character from the comics
