Has anyone else noticed that Killmonger says “hell of a move” after T’Challa stabs him? I laughed and people probably thought I’m an idiot but it was humorous how he knew he was dead and that his plan failed but he was still giving credit where it’s due.
BLACK PANTHER's Lupita Nyong’o And Winston Duke Were Peers At Yale; Went To See THE AVENGERS (2012) Together It's a small world
Saw this last night and I think it's my favorite Marvel movie so far. Loved all the characters, music, just everything was great. I had a problem with CGI in a spot or two. Favorite character was Killmonger. Edit: He's my 2nd favorite villain to be shown in any comic book movie (Ledgers Joker being my first).
Meteor Man, Blade, Spawn, Falcon, Johnny Storm, Storm, Heimdall, Hancock, War Machine, Luke Cage (this is what I could name off the top of my head). He's neglecting a lot of heroes that came before BP. His point would've been more valid if it were that it's been awhile since a black superhero took center stage. It is however 100% the first blockbuster movie that is completely influenced by both African culture, as well as African-American culture in every manner. That's why I love it and feel it is such a good movie. It packs the punch every other MCU movie has had action-wise, but managed to show so much more love and acknowledgement of history and culture that we never see in blockbuster movies like this. Coogler spent time and effort to perfect what is a milestone film in Hollywood history.
Yep. I don’t know if teachers taking classes to see it is part of the reason it’s making this much but there will probably never be another solo introduction super hero film that will bring in this much money. Japan and Korea are bound to throw a lot of money towards it as well.
Yeah, it's pretty outstanding. Wonder if it will continue this way for another while or ease down as they tend to do. I might actually see it again this weekend....
There are not any big films that I can think of that are releasing soon so the legs on Black Panther might be pretty good for the 3rd and 4th weekends.
His point is still valid because there’s a reason Marvel made 18 movies over 11 years and chose not to make a single one of them a solo POC/female movie. It’s also a funny joke.
The misguided "well, actually"-ing (outside of people who are clearly joking) shows a profound misunderstanding of what real representation is. Heck, I'd argue Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok is a better accomplishment in that regard than a lot of white male helmed "diverse" films. Though, if these discussions get more people to appreciate Blade, I can't complain too much, lol.
What a waste that Marvel's two potentially best villains were killed off in this one. I thought Klaw had so much potential.
Saw this for a second time tonight. Still a very good movie. Coogler really knows how to nail down character moments. All of the ancestral plain scenes are beautiful.
Ava’s new joint A Wrinkle In Time is about to make a ton of money on March 9th. That’ll be BP’s main box office competition for the next month. It’s a beautiful thing to see black filmmakers telling amazing stories, and doing crazy box office numbers. I want more. Need Coogler or Ava to do a Star Wars film.
It's fascinating how Coogler makes you want to keep watching him for the exact opposite reason you wanted to keep watching Tony Stark. His prudence and calmness are such badass traits.
Didn’t Ava leave Black Panther due to the focus and time Marvel required? Would Disney be any different with Star Wars?
I’m all for more inclusion in the Star Wars franchise, but what would honestly excite me is if a studio signed a $150 million dollar check to Ryan Coogler to go make his own vehicle. Star Wars just seems too easy and I hope this given him a launch pad to do some other incredible things. I’m sure he will make another Black Panther, but I hope he doesn’t get too locked into other people’s IP.
Both are Disney-owned franchises with certain expectations, but those expectations seem to be different. Like, Taika Waititi isn't about to do Star Wars. It's possible Ava DuVernay just doesn't want to work within any pre-established canon. But, considering her close friendship to JJ Abrams, I feel like a Star Wars standalone film for her down the line isn't that much of a stretch, especially since we're still probably getting a Star War annually for at least the next decade or so, lol.
FINALLY saw this last night. Holy crap. I can't wait to go see it again. this may be my favorite marvel character movie (outside of the 2 avengers movies). i don't think i've been this into the actual story of a marvel movie in a long time. cast was fantastic and hilarious. no issues what so ever with the comedy, it was all perfectly placed and executed IMO.
