He doesn't want 3 types of people going to see Black Panther 1) Virgin Marvel nerds who think Wakanda is a real place and that Black Panther is based on a true story 2) Pro-blacks who didn't celebrate Blade or Luke Cage 3) People who will wear African clothes because they don't know anything about Marvel.
This. So many little details in that movie that perfectly capture what it is to chase a dream and sacrifice for it. Anyway, Black Panther was fantastic. Definitely top 3 MCU. Up there with Iron Man and Winter Soldier for me.
Yeah I mean it doesn't detract from Coogler's run at all but he's nowhere near the first filmmaker to start their careers off this strong.
Yeah, nope. This is so much bigger than just a comic book movie. Restricting it from certain people because they aren't "real fans" is stupid. Let people enjoy things. Fuck that fragile fanboy bullshit. Also that first point doesn't even make sense.
Updated MCU rankings for me: Winter Soldier Civil War Black Panther Thor: Ragnarok The Avengers Spider-Man: Homecoming Guardians 1 Iron Man Guardians 2 Doctor Strange Age of Ultron Ant-Man Iron Man 3 Captain America: The First Avenger Iron Man 2 Thor: The Dark World The Incredible Hulk Thor
Nolan's Insomnia is perpetually underrated. For me, it's his Jackie Brown, the great movie he made after an all-time classic that doesn't get as much attention as it deserves.
Haha. Yeah you gotta play around with some directors :) — the shorts / filmschool stuff too probably shouldn’t count.
Anyway Coogler is amazing and if you haven’t seen all his movies totally go do that. And MBJ’s movies too cause he’s still my favorite actor and I’ll fight for him forever.
Can’t believe I forgot that one. PTA and Wes Anderson may be the top of the pack for me if we don’t go way back.
Lol this movie is kicking my fucking ass so hard at work. The last time I’ve had a movie that felt like a cultural event was The Force Awakens and before that, nothing.
Even Fant4stic? Though to be fair, as awful as that movie was, he did nail all his scenes, so my joke kinda proves your point, lol. I'd totally revisit just his scenes edited into his own short film.
And speaking of Coogler, I can't decide how excited I am for Creed 2 w/out him. Though Jordan, Thompson, and Stalone were great, so I'll still see it for them. Tessa Thompson has become one of my favorite actresses right now. Is the director good?
