I'm with him on phones being more annoying. I'm also not stoked on food delivery at movie theaters, three times during Black Panther a theater employee came up asking the people next to me if they ordered pizza. Each time, they were like... no. That was annoying. I will say, three of the most talkative screenings I've ever been to were Magic Mike XXL, Bad Moms, and Proud Mary, and the excitement and joy of the audience around me talking with the movie was an absolute blast. I separate that sort of talking from people talking to each other during a movie, though.
Yeah, I cant even deal with my friends leaning over to whisper with each other during the movie. There was a baby crying in my showing today and all the parent was doing was covering the baby's mouth as it cried thinking that would solve the problem.
I don't like talking when it's like "what was that" because it's distracting, or when people are complaining because also distracting, the people yelling Get Out Daniel Kaluuya showed up, and oooohhhhhh when Ayo did her thing in Korea and Killmonger took off her shirt were great though
Sometimes I sit next to people who slam their hands into their popcorn bucket, shuffle their hand around because i just hear popcorn moving around and then chomp on the popcorn while it sounds like they are smacking their lips. I want to rip my face off
I hated my theater because I was sandwiched between people either coughing their lungs out or snoring. On the way out, the woman next to me was complaining her SO fell asleep but there was a solid thirty minutes she was snoring through it. What is the point of going?
I hate disruption of any kind in theaters. Only acceptable noises are laughter in comedies and other involuntary noises like coughing and sneezing. Shatters my immersion constantly when people make comments or talk to each other or check their phones. And I never go to dine-in theaters either, unless I’ve already seen the movie once before. It’s crazy how big of a breakdown there’s been in theater etiquette recently; I’ve had several bad experiences in the last year, although my Black Panther screening was good thankfully.
There was a period a few years ago where I would fall asleep during each movie. I don’t know what it was but it happened for almost a year. I could be wide awake on my way to the theater and as soon as I would get comfortable in my seat it was game over
The theater by my high school growing up always threw kids out for checking their phones. I could never do that to other people, I even make sure my smart watch is turned off
My showing was a bit rowdy with the commentary but it was all kinda funny so i was ok with it. I’m normally not, but this movie kind of felt like an event so it didn’t bother me.
Have we taken the time in this thread yet to appreciate the scene where Freeman's character asks T'Challa "can she speak English?" (re: okoye) and she is just like "yes i can white boy next time maybe ask me directly"
One guy in my theater was commenting with “hell yeah” and “you tell em” after a lot of what Killmonger said. He was actually rooting for him during the first fight with T’Challa. It was the first time someone in a theater I was in was rooting for the villain which is a good sign that the villain was written well. I’m always beena fan of story telling that has the audience question who to go for, even if it’s just a few people. I’m surprised I never heard people pull for the Vulture. EDIT; the guy ended up commenting positively for T’Challa during the last fight. I would have liked to known where he changed his mind.
Not gonna be able to see this until Tuesday. I haven’t read any reviews for this and I’m not gonna. I’m just leaving this post in here to say there’s no way that Ryan Coogler is going make a bad movie.
I got you all beat. My theater had teenagers repeatedly coming in and out just talking/laughing/arguing for a solid 20 minutes, I don't know what was going on. I did my best to tune them out, a skill I've acquired as a high school teacher, didn't get angry at all. But finally, one of them who I guess was leaving, turned to address the whole theater and tried to give a spoiler by saying ________ dies which wasn't true anyways. Never seen more obnoxious teenagers, oh wait I teach for a living... well, not in a movie theater at least.
Second time seeing it, I enjoyed it more. There was also a kid running around in a BP costume who was super excited for it. It really warmed my heart seeing that.
My best example of theater etiquette is when I saw what was very clearly (to me) a drug deal go down a couple rows in front of me when I saw I, Tonya. Weird place to do it considering you have to buy tickets to get in. My favourite example of people shouting out in movies is when Adonis Creed beat the British boxer dude and some people were so pumped that they got out of their seats and cheered. I genuinely love stuff like that.
