definitely top tier MCU. Lots of chemistry and themes, and feels like most of the characters had personality and had grown even more by the end. I love the message and the positivity! Hoping it inspires and empowers a lot of people. Also Michael B Jordan is an absolute blast to watch. Killmonger is a great villain to bounce off against BP.
The reviews are getting me pumped for this. Going early Saturday and maybe Thursday/Friday with moviepass if there’s any decent/good seats available. It’s getting tracked around 170m for the long weekend. I think it’ll get 150 for sure and I wouldn’t be surprised at 160. I hope it makes all the money
One of my black friends sent me an invite to a "Christians Against Black Panther" Facebook page in order to spam it out of existence. I just reported most of the content that was trash and got it taken down. I can't fucking understand why people think something like that should exist.
i had no idea this was so well received by critics, that makes me so happy lol Can’t wait for this thread after your release dates. Looking forward to the discussions.
One of the few negatives I’ve heard is the action/fight sequences aren’t all that great or just nothing special. You agree?
They are fun and satisfying to watch still, especially the car chase sequence and one at the end that I won’t give away but I don’t think anything else is as good as the ones you see in Civil War or Avengers. If anything, having that as a negative only shows how great the movie is haha
And can anyone who's seen this already confirm just how dependent this was on the standard MCU formula (not saying it absolutely was)?
imagine being the kid who made the “what are those?” meme only to see it in a Marvel movie someday? Lol One thing I can say that I appreciated about this movie is that it felt very independent from the rest of the Marvel canon. Despite having a flashback to remind viewers of past events (and a standard Stan Lee cameo), it never really shoehorned in dumb references to the Avengers or feel the need to pad the movie with subplots that would only serve as a way to bridge one movie to the next. All in all, I thought this pretty enjoyable and, though I found the first half to be much stronger than the second, I still think it’s easily one of the better Marvel movies. Personally, I have no desire to see it again, but I’d imagine that if you’re a big Marvel movie fan that you’ll have a lot of fun with it. However, I still take issue with how fucking bland these god damn Marvel movies look. I don’t know why this is the aesthetic that they decided to go with, but it really does a disservice to their movies, especially one such as this that could totally stand alone.
Unfortunately, my tickets aren't until Sunday night, but I can't wait! No doubt it does well with the box office, but the potential $200 million opening would be amazing.
If I'm completely unfamiliar with the MCU and don't really care about superhero movies/comics/franchises, what are the chances I'll still enjoy this movie?
Does this one match more closely to the visual flair of Ragnarok ? With Coogler here I was hoping for a very distinct visual flair, especially with the possibilities in Wakanda.
Black Panther was on Iron Man’s side in Civil War because the villain killed Black Panther’s dad and BP thought it was the same guy that Iron Man’s side was after. T’Challa has to now take his father’s place in Wakanda (the kingdom that Black Panther is king of). Now you’re caught up with the MCU side of Black Panther. As for the chances you’ll enjoy this if you don’t like superhero films depends entirely on how much “superhero” you tolerate. It’s a political film so there’s more to it than the “hero saves the day” formula. I don’t know what your idea of a superhero film is though.
Opening weekend or total? I was kind of talking 4 day weekend cause that was what the latest tracking was accounting for and cant see 207+ for the 3 day but considering how this is becoming such a huge event I wouldnt be astonished or anything if it exceeds tracking and gets to like 190 for the 3 day. As far as total, another tough one. 1.5 billion for Avengers so probably not but its definitely going to cross a billion. This thing is going to break the February record and the reception is already so good and I can see the word of mouth giving this long legs like Wonder Woman and especially since the biggest names in March are Tomb Raider, Pacific Rim, and Ready Player One and really nothing big in April either. Idk. Ill go 1.3billion but Im not good at box office stuff really, I just want it to make every money.
I mean the opening weekend (4 days counting Thursday) lol I havenet kept up with the weekend predictions. 190 mil would be fantastic. With a fourth day I could see it pushing an extra 12 - 14 million. So this is pretty much guaranteed to be the biggest weekend for a solo comic book film at this point?
