thanks for sharing the link. interesting that they compare hector and kenny to walt and jesse haha. it makes sense.
I suppose it's just a personal thing, I just didn't like how it ended, what the reveal was. I didn't feel satisfied at the end and just felt like it was a waste of a build up for the revel just to be someone "trolling" bad people. I was hoping for more of a story behind who/what was happening.
Okay, if it's just a personal thing, then I get it. I thought you were making it out to be something like "it was poorly made and straight up bad" or something.
Quick run-down of what I've watched so far and some thoughts. Nosedive Bryce Dallas Howard was brilliant. She sold this and it wouldn't have worked without her. Probably a realistic viewpoint of where we can go. Don't think it all came off but watching it all unfold was great. Her ending speech was great and I think there was a hope to be found in the end. Playtest A very very smart idea. Creeped me out for a lot of it. Didn't think the ending worked though. I think there's a lot to be said for apps in this one. Lead guy was great though and made it a lot more light-hearted than it was. Really hard part with his mum though. Shut Up and Dance I know a lot of people have been indifferent on this one but I loved it. Exit Music was perfect for the ending. The interaction with the little girl seems so sinister in retrospect. I actually think it's really smart in its execution. Up until the reveal, you have a sympathy for Kenny. He's a young boy who clearly has his struggles that is only going to be worsened by humiliation and ridicule that he was wanking to porn and got videoed. That's the kick in the balls, that they draw out sympathy for a character who turns out to be a pedophile. That's what the most crushing part is. The troll face was needed to take it to a lighter tone I think but really soul crushing. Brooker has previous for this with his writing for Brass Eye.
I liked it too. Honestly it made it feel connected to reality in a way, especially since that's easily one of the least futuristic episodes of the show.
I really enjoyed the new season. My favorites in order: Nosedive Shut Up and Dance Men Against Fire Playtest Hated in the Nation San Junipero It is neat to see how everyone reacted differently to the episodes. I am so glad that Netflix is producing more episodes of this. These shows are so great for discussion as well.
How can San Junipero be anyone's least favorite I just don't understand. That might be my favorite episode of the show. Just unbelievably brave storytelling in every conceivable respect.
Made it through the first half of Season 3 last night. "Shut Up and Dance" has hit me the hardest so far. I enjoyed the ending ending to "Nose Dive" the most so far.
shut up and dance: I didn't necessarily like or hate the troll face but I think it worked because in the context, when you saw it, you knew exactly what it meant. #memelife
Regarding Shut Up and Dance and the troll face, I loved it. I think it worked extremely well because, aside from Kenny, most of the characters targeted were on the older side and so may not be familiar with its implications. I feel like it would be very sinister in its ambiguity.
Nosedive is like the darker version of Community's App Development and Condiments episode in season 5
Least favorite is relative, I still really enjoyed it but just less than the other episodes this year.
I think my ranking would be: San Junipero Hated In the Nation Nosedive Men Against Fire Playtest Shut Up and Dance And my overall show rankings: San Junipero The Entire History of You Be Right Back White Bear Hated In the Nation White Christmas The National Anthem Nosedive Men Against Fire Fifteen Million Merits Playtest The Waldo Moment Shut Up and Dance
I'm really loving this season so far, after having been watching Black Mirror since the start it's so great to see it going from strength to strength, with some of the series' best episodes coming this season. I'm about to watch episode 6 now, so I'll give my full thoughts after, but I've gotta say this season has already been incredible.
My top five: White Christmas Shut Up and Dance The Entire History of You Be Right Back San Junipero The rest all jumble together in quality, but I will say that The Waldo Moment is still, easily, the worst episode.
