There were parts of Demon 79 where I was like "am I just watching an episode of The Good Place right now?"
I was ready to hate Mazey Day because of all the reactions here, but I thought it was fun. Didn't really feel like a typical Black Mirror episode, and it's my least fav of the season so far.
halfway through beyond the sea but why don't they send the fucking REPLICAS to space with like 4 backups
Now that I have had time to think on it, I think Beyond The Sea might be my least favorite of the season. Too long, lifeless, didn't feel like any of the cast tried that hard. Honestly the best performance in the entire episode was Rory Culkin in the beginning.. Mazey Day didn't seemed like it belonged in Black Mirror and was kind of dumb, but I was still entertained by it.
First three episodes are good but what the fuck is Mazey Day? Will watch the last one tomorrow probably
I don’t have a source on this besides a Reddit post, but apparently Demon 79 was originally intended for a more horror themed spin off called “Red Mirror”, hence the intro for it.
Demon 79 was great. I enjoyed the whole season. Weakest ep was Mazey Day, but even that one gets fun in the back half. Feels like they're venturing away from what I'd usually expect from this series. Thematically, Joan is Awful felt the most Black Mirror-esque. With a few exceptions, Netflix tends to just churn out more and more mindless content, so I'll take more Black Mirror any day.
Joan Is Awful - 4/10 Loch Henry - 8.5/10 Beyond the Sea - 6/10 Mazey Day - 3/10 Demon 79 - 8/10 Very inconsistent season overall, it's clear that Charlie Brooker is really running out of ideas. They need some new writers on the show.
You know in the late nineties when there were a million Tarantino clones (Killing Zoe, U Turn, The Big Hit, Kalifornia, etc.) The later seasons of this show feel like that.
On ep 4 and had to leave. First episode was real bad I thought. Annie Murphy and Rob saved it imo. Loved episode 2. Episode 3 was ok. Cool to see Hartnett
I think this show’s just lost the surprise factor. If the first season’s first 3 episodes had been this season’s first 3 episodes, we would’ve been losing our minds back then.
Really enjoyed this season. Joan Is Awful was my favorite. It was the funniest, most intriguing, actually Black Mirroresque and Selma Hayek and Annie Murphy are super fun (and Michael Cera!) I also really thought Kate Mara in Beyond the Sea and Anjana Vasan in Demon 79 were especially good. Wasn’t so big on Loch Henry like most though. And Mazey Day was.. Mazey Day.
Paapa Essiedu in Demon 79 might be my favorite performance of the season. I'd only seen him in I May Destroy You and Men before.
