person getting mad that everyone is on their phones is extremely on brand for the intellect of this show nowadays.
I think this will play out to be a red herring to the theme of the episode. The happy ending for it may be that cell phones save the day, inviting us to thinking positively about technology for once. This season’s romance episode is definitely not going to be uplifting as a trade off to this and the past couple of seasons.
Its a common lazy criticism of our culture and the show has leaned into that laziness before with episodes like Nosedive.
I will admit that I was initially disappointed that this season will “only” be three episodes (even though there was precedent for that pre-Netflix). That said, my hope is that “quality over quantity” turns out to be the correct interpretation of that decision. I would be happier with “just” three really strong episodes than three strong episodes and a few more of filler that would cause me to think the season was overall subpar.
Nosedive is one of my favorite episodes of this series. I definitely don't see how one could call it lazy just because it's focused on the impact of social media.
I agree. I also like the episode. And don't think it's lazy because it focused on the impact of social media.
Let the record show that I never said or implied Nosedive is lazy because it focuses on the impact of social media.
