It's a very good episode all the way through, but that final shot damn near ruins it. I get what Brooker was going for emotionally, but it was hard for me to suspend my disbelief that anyone would put themselves in that kind of danger just for that.

    Really good though.

Through the first two episodes. I enjoyed the first one; Arkangel was garbage.

  4. i mean we don't know the reasons why they were trying to get whatever was in the warehouse, only that is was probably for a dying child of maybe her sisters or her close friends. and we didn't know it was a stuffed bear until the end. I think we were supposed to think it was medicine or something. and for all they knew, it was going to be a quick job. they didn't expect the dog to be there. and it's not like she spent the rest of the episode trying to get back to get the bear, she spent the rest of the time trying to run and survive. I think the last shot was fine because it was the "twist." we spent the entire episode thinking she was trying to get something important and then this killing machine tracked her the entire episode, and then we find out she was getting a bear to comfort the child.

I'd have to agree with this. They were the only ones I enjoyed 100%. The other 4 had their moments but weren't entirely as engrossing as these two.

Black museum was really good. Probably my favorite of the season but still need to go bank and watch hang the dj because I was worried i wasn't in the right mood for it the other night so skipped over it

I thought Metalhead was good for what it was. It was just super suspenseful but didn't really have the big technology twist that the other episodes all have. I think the runtime helped, with it only being 38 minutes. Had it been an hour or longer, I think it would have gotten old or boring. But the fact that it had very little dialogue and just one actor on the screen and still kept me on the edge of my seat was pretty impressive to me. Far from my favorite, but not as bad as a lot of people think it was, imo.

I think I'd rank this season as:

    1. USS Callister
    2. Hang the DJ
    3. Black Museum
    4. Crocodile
    5. Metalhead
    6. Arkangel

I think my biggest issue with Metalhead was it was never really clear what the specific motive of the dogs was. Did they just take over and want to wipe out humans, or were they specifically programmed to protect certain things at all costs? Seeing the dead couple in bed really added to my confusion because there was no backstory as to if they did anything to aggravate the dogs or were just caught in the middle. On top of that, hypothetically speaking if the dogs were just trying to eradicate humans, wouldn't the group have come across dogs on their travels, as it seems nowhere is safe?

I get what they tried to do with the ending, but it fell so flat with the lack of backstory. I usually am a fan of the whole "fill in the gaps" / "higher level of thinking" type of writing, but it seemed so sloppy that there wasn't anything to really fill in.

I tend to take this show at face value and not enjoy it for what it is (and try not to come up with my own confines for a fictional world), but this was eating me up for days after I watched it.

Metalhead would be beautifully served by a sequel/prequel in a future season. It'll never happen because the whole anthology thing and also because Charlie Brooker is Charlie Brooker, but a man can dream.

i was completely confused by the ending of hang the DJ.

were they fucking with the system the whole time so they could match themselves at the end?

I really think Arkangel was great until the very end. I really thought the girl was going to end up committing suicide and the mom would watch her do it from her point of view, or something like that, or overdosing on drugs, etc.. Having her just...hitchhike was such a letdown of an ending.

I don't think it really offered anything insightful. Invading your kids privacy is bad. Don't need an episode of black mirror to reveal that. The only bit that I thought was really interesting was the whole "blacking out stressful situations causes more serious problems later".
The entire episode, up until the end, was a simulation running on their phones. In most of the simulations (we only saw the last one) they rebelled against the system. Then at the end, we saw real life with the simulation, having now completed, determining they were a 99.8% match because they rebelled 998/1000 times

I just rewatched The Entire History of You, what a perfect episode (in a sickeningly sad way). Probably top 3 for me.

  24. Black Museum was unjustifiably morbid, it was like an unpleasant White Christmas.

I hated the main character too, felt more like a narrator than a character which made it silly.

Standouts this season for me were Callister and Metalhead. Hang The DJ was nice too but nothing extraordinary.
