Only just finished season 3 and, going through this thread, I really don't understand the hate for Shut Up and Dance.
Just watched up to "Hang The DJ" - cool episode to finish my night on but mainly the chemistry between the two protagonists, holy fuck, so so great.
Just watched it. I don't know if words like "loved" or "hated" can really apply to something like this, which is probably the intention. I'll put my thoughts in spoilers, since it seems like there's a lot of people like me in here who are just now getting into this show. 3/4ths of the episode just seems like an on the nose cautionary tale about snuff films. You want the main character to make it out alive and you're disgusted by all these people filming her horror, but there's still some slight mystery to it that's in the back of your mind. Then the twist comes in and for a minute you just think, "well fuck, how could I have ever been rooting for this woman?". The next few minutes go by and the extremity of the punishment starts to play out and you just hate both sides. At the end, you end up hating those punishing more than the alleged criminal. Of course, near the end I finally noticed that this is all punishment being dished out from white people towards a black woman. So now I don't know if she even committed the crime (we never actually see the video playout). Or even if she did the crime, is this same severity of punishment being dealt to white people for the same crimes? There's a little bit of commentary about the war on drugs here too (them planting the pills at her feet every day). There's a lot to unpack in this one. Can't say it's one I "enjoyed" watching, but that's mostly because of how uncomfortable it makes the viewers feel.
Hang The DJ was sooo nice, god damn. Top 3 of the season would be Callister, DJ and Black Museum with the others equally last place.
Crocodile was probably the first Black Mirror ep I've seen where I just shook my head. Too obvious what was going to happen and tried way too hard to be dark and ended up looking just dumb. So far only ones I've seen are that, White Christmas, All of Season 3 except the last two, and the first three of season 4.
Just started last night and only got around to USS Callister. I had low expectations for it, because I'm not into Star Trek at all and was fearing that I wouldn't get it. Hated the first few minutes but ended up loving the episode. Honestly might be in my top 5 or 6 overall as of now. Excited to (hopefully) finish the rest of the season this weekend.
Okay so this is a really, really, really nitpicky thing about Hang the DJ but upon thinking about it later my least favorite part was that they mentioned that the Program had a 99.8% success rate while one of the simulations was still running. Even if you figure that we were seeing a visualization of the very last of 1000 sims (and I don't think they are listed as #1000 at the end screen), there would be no way for the algorithm to be predictive of the 998/1000 summation without the entire program being rendered moot in the first place. I know that's stupid but it's where my head went.
White Bear is my fave of all seasons. I don't have time to look it up but I think the actress in WB was also the lead character in Hang the DJ?
So let me get this straight- at the episode's end they have no memory of ever meeting before? No previous knowledge of each other's existence?
For me it was less that and more "there's no way that's true right?" Definitely looks bad on my part though
I was fucking around, but I mean surely seeing two different people with your own eyes for extended lengths of time would override thinking you read something somewhere. ITT people justifying thinking all black people look alike. We still see you.
