Those first two eps don't exactly get you hooked but they are solid. I love the show but it is because of those other episodes you mentioned much more. Plus I am a big Twilight Zone fan and this is like an updated version of that so I was going to like it regardless.
I didn't even think of the Twilight Zone comparison, totally right. I lived for Twilight Zone marathons growing up haha.
The Twilight Zone is the very first thing that came to my mind when I started watching this years ago. And it's how I describe it to people as a 'modern day Twilight Zone focusing on technology.'
My girlfriend just started going through all the episodes and man do I hate Nosedive. It's so obvious and boring.
just watched the entire series for the first time this week. my initial thoughts while watching the first season were "this is so banksy". still enjoyed it. the second nosedive came on though i just thought "wait, no, this is banksy". mostly garbage season. not sure i'm too excited for a fourth season. oh well. the national anthem shut up and dance the entire history of you white christmas playtest white bear be right back hated in the nation fifteen million merits men against fire the waldo moment san junipero nosedive
reading through this thread it seems as though that's a fan favourite? idk, for me i just wasn't watching this show to see a "happy ending", so to speak. which..is actually why i enjoyed the bleakness of shut up and dance so much, heh.
san junipero requires too much thought/overall speculation about various aspects in order to be considered a bleak ending. For me, I don't dislike it so much as think that it feels out of place with the rest of the series. Whereas every episode has an on-the-nose bleak ending, there's too much interpretation IMO in San Junipero to consider it fitting in line with the rest of the series.
Yeah that's how I feel, it doesn't feel like a part of the series to me. National Anthem is the only one I flat out dislike.
I'm not sure it's supposed to be a bleak ending which is why it's so successful to me. It's a ray of sunshine in a show filled with darkness. It still felt very much in line with the rest of the show to me, things just ended well. Plus it's fucking beautiful and emotional.
What does "so banksy" mean in this context? I don't understand it if it's a reference to the graffiti artist.
But then you ranked Nosedive last? After saying "no this is banksy". So is something that "makes u tink" bad? Sorry, just got so confused.
my criticisms of both banksy and black mirror (specifically episodes like nosedive) would be very similar. to me there's very little depth there. it's surface level social commentary that's already been beaten to death. it somehow manages to be a cross between a facebook comment on a link to a thrash fear mongering red-top article that just says "smart phones? they should be called..uh..NOT smart phones (get it???)" and your little brother who fucking loves reddit. it doesn't "make u tink" about anything you've never actually already thought about. it preaches to the choir. etc. etc.
Just started watching this show. Makes me uncomfortable (which I guess is the point), but I can't stop watching lol
