Glad to see people are loving this, when I saw them back in a tiny pub in London a few months ago without really knowing anything beyond Husk they completely blew me away (and I got the setlist haha). The album is incredible, even if the Manchester Orchestra etc influences are pretty prominent, it's definitely up there in my favourite albums of the year and I implore anyone to see them live if you can, especially while they're small. Will be seeing them again in London in October and can't wait!
I can't wait to listen to this! Based on what's been said and the familiar faces in this thread I'm pretty excited to check this out on my drive home! My favorite artists of all time are ManOrch/Brand New/Modest Mouse/Weatherbox/Frightened Rabbit with All Get Out/Microwave slowly joining those ranks so I should enjoy this band
Going to the gig in October what appears to be a 250 capacity venue in london Although they do have a 500 capacity room aswell How are none of these gigs sold out? Black Foxxes @ The Boston Music Room, London
Yeah I think I'm falling into this category. Sounded pretty solid from the first song or two I heard but as an album it hasn't done much for me yet. I want to like it and have listened to it 6 or 7 times but hasn't made me say "Wow" yet.
I feel like this isn't super well-produced? Or at least, I can't help thinking the vocals are super buried in a lot of this. Which sucks, because damn, dude's got pipes.
Idk I love the production.. The guitar tones are so freakin good also the dynamics are captured really well. I wouldn't want the vocals any louder personally
What'd those set you back? I know I need something better than these surely overpriced and under-made Urban Outfitters ones, lol
I think it's intentional. A lot of the songs have a live recording feel. If you listen to Slow Jams Forever, it actually sounds even more "live" than the other tracks. I don't know in what manner this record was recorded/produced, but I personally think it fits the band and sound.
The middle of this record is really strong. "River" -> "Maple Summer" -> "Bronte" is a stellar trio tucked in there.
Don't get quiet comfort, just get the round ear Bluetooth ones. They are 100 less than quiet comfort and still block out a ton of sound. Spent 250 on them lol
Wish I enjoyed this as much as some of you have. I'm keeping it on my playlist hopefully some of it will sink it a lil more.
This is creeping up my favorite of the year list. So fucking raw. Loving his vocal approach and the soft/loud dynamic. Southern brand new.
Going to that as well, saw them in a tiny pub in Shoreditch in April I think, and there were probably only 20-30 people there, which was a bit of a shame because they did absolutely kill their set, even if the singer had tonsillitis at the time! Hope this sells out the 250 cap place before October, they really deserve it off the back of their new album.
The more I listen to it the more I'm a fan. On my running list for my Top 10 of the year, it's currently at #8. The back half takes a bit to get into, but it gets better and better every time. The first five tracks are perfect to me, though.
