That was their second album. I think he was great but I think the girls are all pretty wonderful too. It's definitely a very different vibe though.
Can't, for the life of me, get into the debut. I tried when it initially came out and wrote the band off. Then Ants was so good that I bought in and tried again and couldn't get through it. I'll listen again at some point next week.
Love ants, debut didn’t do much for me though. This will take a few listens to grow on me but def has some bangers after my first run through
firing up the debut right now and it's already hitting. it helps that I love pulp and it's basically pulp 2.0, which is why I kinda get them abandoning that sound immediately
yeah Science Fair remains one of their best, I never really listen to anything else apart from Track X from that album though. original Sunglasses version or bust
Yeah, I’m with a lot of you. I love Ants but can’t really get into the first one. I’ve listened to it 2-3 times too. It’s just not for me. I’m liking this new one after the first listen
spinning this again and yeah the first half is opening up for me now too. think I just truly dislike Besties and it was throwing me off, I really wish this opened with literally any other song lmao Salem Sisters deserved to be a single, that's a perfect pop song right there
man the way For the Cold Country starts sounding like it's in mono and then just opens up into full sound after "kite strings burn my palms" is just breathtaking. one of their best moments ever
I continue to try to see what I’m missing with this band but it’s still not clicking yet. There’s some impressive jumps from one idea to the next here but very little I’m actually enjoying. So weird, this thread is basically a murderer’s row of people whose opinions here I generally agree with.
Besties is the only one I don't really like. It's growing on me but a lot of the melodies just don't really work for me. It feels a little awkward.
it's wild because I was so excited to finally hear Georgia sing on a BCNR song and then it came out and just deflated my expectations for the whole album lol. now think everything else here is pretty great including her other two songs, just makes the choice of song to lead off this whole era even more baffling
Honestly same here. I loved the first two - thought Ants was even better than the debut - but the vibes beginning with the last minute or so of Socks through the end of the album are just so much more my thing in general and also because it’s not at all unsettling it’s a much easier listen.
I always found it difficult to pick a favourite between the first two, then Bush Hall ended up around the same place. This seems like its on target to make a four way tie haha. I'll have to try and rank them properly at some point but they're all very close.
Descending release order for me, but they're all pretty good with a little filler between Bush Hall and this one.
The last chorus in Mary is my favorite moment on the entire record. She screams in the shower Lost all of her power
