Well, I do adore Socks! Giving minor Joanna Newsom vibes imo. Edit: Salem Sisters might be even better. This is great so far but I did go into it with somewhat recalibrated expectations. Edit: Two Horses is the best one so far - excellent track. I am extremely into this.
Last consecutive post: Six songs in and so far every song has been better than the last. Expectations shattered. The Joanna Newsom vibes are all I’ve ever wanted. Curious to see how this will land with all of you but I’m immediately absolutely in love with it.
I'm up to Two Horses and am having the exact same reactions so far haha. Each song is better than the last.
i thought the singles were a bit too precious but i might not have been in the mood — looking forward to hearing it all in context
The only one I loved was For the Cold Country. I like Happy Birthday a lot more in context, but I think Besties is the worst song on the album, personally.
I really love Socks and Salem Sisters but yeah the run from Two Horses to the title track is insanely good.
yeah this really picks up in the second half, For The Cold Country is incredible. once again proving May supremacy
just wrapped it up, this is the most backloaded album I've heard in a long time lmao. gonna have to dedicate some more time to the first half to see if anything clicks but the second is absolutely colossal on first impression there's nothing here as good as Turbines/Pigs but nothing as rough as The Wrong Trousers, not sure yet which album I prefer
i get isaac was the songwriter but it’s really just crazy we got two albums of songs from this band where none of these incredible singers singing lol
and yeah the back half is much stronger. halfway through i was thinking i was surprised tyler was given the majority of the songs here bc i think socks and salem sisters are pretty weak and then happy birthday and nancy tries to take the night hit lol
Kind of a four song lull after the first two tracks, and then yeah, the back half is pretty great. I even like "For the Cold Country" more on second listen!
After my first two listens I really miss the vocals of Ants From Up Here...songs don't carry nearly the same emotional weight as the first album imo...will still be willing to give it a try but such a let down that the lead singer left after that first album of perfection
