I've seen one in Texas! Had to go out of my way to see it. But yeah I was hoping to catch one while up here, things are dinosaurs
Im in Mass, and we havent seen juncos in a bit... Sparrows and finches, bluejays, cardinals, and mourning doves are the big ones now, for us, and on occasional some types of woodpeckers.... TTMs for sure too. Chickadees too.
Last morning in New Hampshire and I went out to a lake to try to see a Common Loon. I think there was one out there but it was pretty far and difficult to tell. In other news, I did see a Brown Creeper yesterday for the first time. They are tiny and nearly impossible to see given how fast they move and how well they blend in on trees
Our bird feeder gets filled at 7 AM EST, and by 9 AM its empty - lol. Sparrows mainly now, and bluejays for the peanuts. Whats sad is at 5 PM or so (the first and last birds of the day are the cardinals), when they come looking for food.... Poor Cardinals.
I love juncos. One of the bright spots of winter. (And for the record, as far as I know there is nothing wrong with dark-eyed junco?)
in other news, a bald eagle flew overhead on our way to the airport yesterday. one last treat from New Hampshire!
Our town has Hawks, left right and center... They swoop down every so often for a squirrel, rabbit, etc....
Sometimes I get lucky and see a baldie on my commute. I always lose my mind, there are no exceptions. This past weekend I had our resident red shouldered hawk land on my patio table right outside my kitchen as I was cooking breakfast. Legit only like 8ft away from me with just the door between us. I think we have a breeding pair too since I always hear two of them squawking at each other. They're so fucking loud some days. Luckily not as annoying as nesting osprey.
Went to the NC Raptor museum a few weeks ago and saw some hawks and vultures and condors etc. cool shit
