My least favorite birds are the birds who wake shortly before sunrise and make a lot of noise. Those birds are assholes. The other ones are pretty cool, though. Like penguins and eagles. I say to those birds: go birds.

yo I hit 200 birds ID'd today! My 200th was a Pine Warbler, my 199th was a Red-naped Sapsucker, an uncommon sighting in this region everyone was going out of their way to see. Only happens once every 5 years or so.

I’ve been having awesome interactions with the scrub jays in my back yard. I bring them peanuts and they’ve come to know me, it’s quite interesting. Yesterday one was coming within a couple feet of me and we had what felt like a full conversation. It was making this crazy noise, sort of like a low churring noise.

My goal is to get them to feed from my hand although concerns of bird flu worry me as well!

 

I love this, corvids are so dang smart. But also loud lol

 

True. I’m just fascinated by the highly diverse vocal repertoire they have.

This feels like the best place to say this (as opposed to a pet thread), it’s really hard sometimes having birds as a pet. They’re so much more fragile and harder to care for than a dog or cat.

100% worth it to have chickens, though. Even if they gave zero eggs. What a delightfully cool animal.

Worth it though, they are so cool

 

We got a birdfy birdfeeder for the holidays last year - very entertaining here in Massachusetts USA

Each day we fill it with seed, and await the birds - we see finches, cardinals, sparrows, woodpeckers, and a bunch of others.

It takes pix and video and sends it to our phones. Its real neat.
