Looking at the song credits on Spotify, looks like he’s using some cowriters on these two new tracks other than his usual producer. Putting that Columbia bag to work.
Okay this album is just so good, one earworm after another. It should be illegal how good this album is. Did I need a deluxe edition? I did not, but fuck yes, take that victory lap!
So I’m cool with the two new songs being at the beginning, but Boutta Cashew and Livin Laughin Lovin feel a little too shoehorned for me. Those two are great, but they really feel like a mid point of the Goblin Hours stuff and American Motor Sports. I think they should’ve been added at the end.
Feels like they randomly threw them on there without much thought. I don’t think they sound as similar sonically to the other two new songs.
Love the new songs. Love Boutta and LLL. But I'm going to listen to the album in the OG order and then the other ones after like bonus tracks.
Ugh Athens and Knoxville are just a little too far to justify driving just for a concert. Y'all have fun. @Garrett They are legitimately one of the most fun bands I've ever seen live. You gotta go.
Gonna try and make it to the first date in RVA. I missed out on the first leg due to being so busy and getting married but next february is wide open
I would say no, as a whole. I do think there are some gems in the back catalog though. Best bet is to look up his most recent setlist and listen to the non-AMS songs, and if you like any of those a lot you can check out the album they come from. Generally everything is pretty short, so it's not hard to go through each album, but I know there are a lot of albums.
I would basically listen to EGGYPOCKET and GOBLIN HOURS - that’s where he starts streamlining his sound dramatically. But they’re different to motor sports
I got into him with this album and then worked my way backwards through his discography and nothing else really clicked with me. Hope better for you!
I could pretty much always look forward to 1-2 songs to love on the EPs, peppered between a various number of other songs I would never listen to twice on purpose
I think this new AMS stuff is where he really nails the big, catchy vocal melodies. The stuff before isn't bad but it's missing that catchiness that keeps me coming back to AMS
