I'm still new to his discography but I did already think his albums often blended together. Like his very first ones are a bunch of easycore influenced pop punk tunes written in the same key and hitting the same beats, for example. His sound has evolved since, but I guess if the formula works etc.
Obsessed with this, to be honest. Initially I was upset it was too short but it’s nice that it doesn’t overstay its welcome. MISS ME is kind of meh and it being the third track kills a lot of momentum but otherwise this is gonna be at the top of my aoty list for sure.
Here to say Miss Me is good actually, if maybe placed a little too early in the album. Great ballad without the heavy elements of the rest of the album, it probably has more crossover potential than people think. This genre is 100% not my lane but the songwriting is undeniable. Seems like an even better live band from the YouTube vids I’ve seen, the saxophone! I probably would never want to see any of the bands they would tour with though lol.
Spinnin' Around's solo sounds straight from an instrumental progmetal band like Polyphia, or Plini. Funny but awesome moment that doesn't happen anywhere else in the album.
I had no idea he was so popular now too. Evidently many of his upcoming tour dates sold out in a few minutes. Granted they appear to be largely only ~500 cap rooms, but still. Suppose it doesn’t hurt that he had a built in fanbase to begin with
He's headlining a room here in Birmingham where I've seen Coheed, Local Natives, Manchester Orchestra, Brand New, and Ingrid Michaelson. Probably some others that I can't remember, but yeah. I would've thought he was way smaller than all of those artists. The only other -core band I've even heard of playing there is Erra, but Birmingham is a hometown show for them.
I’ve literally never listened to Plini but I have his Neural DSP Archetype plug in because it sounds so fucking incredible lol
I haven't listened to much more than that. He's just a typically talented bedroom guitar shredder, who's better at playing technically than writing anything memorable.
Hoping he upgrades some of the venues he’s playing at. Selfishly, because I still don’t have tickets to the Boston date.
Yup! Clean vocalist on their first two albums. Highly recommend checking out the rest of his stuff as Bilmuri, if you dig the new album. Him and Caleb have been crushing it since leaving the dumpster fire AA! turned into. Lol
Between this and the Scene Queen album, I feel like I've time-travelled back to the trashy metalcore days of the late '00s and honestly I'm here for it.
That’s fair. I honestly didn’t go into it expecting to like it as much as I did, but it just clicked with me after a few listens for some reason.
^^^ this guy is an idiot. I cranked my hog to these songs all weekend long. Easily in my top 5 AOTY list right now. A perfect balancing act of hooks, tongue in cheek, and genre melding I really don't think anyone else could pull off. I also find his humor great, and routinely find myself laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of it all, especially the music videos.
