I have really enjoyed every Billy talent record now that I think about it even III has a lot of great tracks I frequently go back to, never fully understood the dislike that album received.
Agreed this album is great my new ranking is Billy Talent I> BT2> Afraid of Heights> Dead Silence> BT3 Even though BT3 is ranked my least favorite I still frequently go back to 6/11 of its tracks.
I've never been the biggest fan of theirs until recently. I think I'd go BT2 > Afraid of Heights > BT1 > BT3 Don't think I've heard Dead Silence actually.
Dead Silence for me might be their best album, it's certainly their most consistent. Afraid of Heights is really good. Ian has never sounded better. The only properly weak song is the reprise - it sounds like an alternate version rather than an album closer. I just wish there were a couple more songs that put chills on my neck the way Dead Silence did a few years ago (Cure For The Enemy, Hanging By A Thread etc). But it's still a three and a half / four star album easily. Can't wait for Big Red Gun to be released as a single and I'm going to try and catch them on tour.
Spotify has some bizarre regional gaps (Dead Silence is up for me, but I'm in the UK). I think New Found Glory's Coming Home is missing from their catalogue, for instance.
Yeah that is weird. I tweeted at BT and Spotify about it but never heard anything. It was on Spotify US at some point but it seems to have just disappeared. I have the physical CD somewhere but with streaming I haven't needed to use Itunes in a long time but I miss listening to that album.
I hadn't listened to these guys in a while but I finally checked out Afraid Of Heights today. Really solid album with some great tracks ("Afraid of Heights" and "The Crutch" standout in particular). Now I'm going back and listening to their whole catalog again. I forgot just how much I love their first two albums. Ian D'Sa is such a great guitarist.
Stop-motion animated music video for Ghost Ship of Cannibal Rats - one of the best on the album in my view. Cool to see a music video in this day and age that actually sort of follows the song rather than simply being a short film which happens to have a soundtrack. (That said, it is a bit... literal with the metaphor)
I haven't listened to Billy Talent in ages. Was on shuffle with my music today and Voices of Violence popped up and forgot how awesome I loved that first album. Gonna need to check out the other albums.
Recently gave Afraid of Heights a listen through for the first time. I really like the Demo versions. Slightly more raw sounding imo. Hadn't enjoyed a Billy Talent album that much on first listen since Billy Talent II. Love that album so much.
