Absurd to pay $26 for a 7” vinyl, but Billy Joel was pretty much the only artist my dad and I ever agreed on. With this year marking 10 years since my dad passed, my weird brain just couldn’t say no to purchasing this and thinking of him when it arrives. He would’ve been stoked.
I'm also curious about this. "All My Life" was an anniversary gift for his wife, so it was a high bar for him to return before. I can't pretend I don't wonder if Olivia Rodrigo had something to do with it. Shouting him out in "deja vu" and then appearing with him on stage. He's always been very self-conscious about whether anyone likes more than just his hits, alluding to people taking bathroom breaks when he played "All for Layna". Maybe he finally thought the kids might like him.
It’s very, very good. Feels like classic Billy but modern. A great reintroduction and apparently there may be more coming.
Love me some Billy Joel. Storm Front was my first cassette back in 1990. Own most of his stuff on vinyl now too and was so lucky to see one of his MSG residency shows back in 2022.
I love it! It's a really beautiful song, and I like how it's kind of got layered meanings with obviously presenting as a love song but being about his music career too, with a touch of addressing societal divide. Keep em coming Mr. Joel
Really touching to hear the story of how his co-writer helped him find joy in making music again during that Grammys segment. That guy's good in my book for life.
