Billions (Showtime) TV Show

Discussion in 'Entertainment Forum' started by Jason Tate, Mar 9, 2016.

  1. Billions is an American television drama series created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis. The series is loosely based on crusading federal prosecutor of financial crimes Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

  2. I've been watching this the past few nights before bed and enjoying it. It's very much business/financial/legal porn. But that's right up my alley. I'm not sure I like any of the characters as people, but it's been enough to keep my interested all season so far. I kinda have been cheering for the Axe, the hedge fund guy, 'cause cheering for the villain is sometimes fun.

It's made me think about insider trading in a lot of different ways. I've read some articles in the past that even think it should be legal.

I remember seeing this advertised and wanting to check it out, but Showtime is pretty much the only network I don't have easy access to be able to watch online with.

Damian Lewis is great; @Jason Tate what are some shows similar to this?

The film The Big Short reminds me of this a lot.

  6. It reminds me of basically all the business / legal type shows. Wall Street, maybe a little Social Network-y, Margin Call.

Started watching this a few days ago. Love it. Reminds me of kind of a cross between House of Cards and The Wolf of Wall Street.

    Anyone still watching?

Noah Emmerich directed the most recent episode (204), which I found pretty awesome.

Last one I saw was the poker tournament episode, don't think I've seen the latest one yet

Just got into this recently and burned through season one in a couple of weeks. So good. I love slick shows that involve fast-talking about things I don't understand!

How's this season compared to season 1?

It's on par with the first season.

  17. I'm liking it more so far, mostly because Axe is full on "fuck it" mode and I really like Taylor's character.

Taylor's character is definitely refreshing. I'm curious to see how she reacts once she finds out the FBI is on to her.

Episode 2x11 may have been my favorite episode of the series thus far. Can't wait for the finale.

Yes, 2.11 was awesome, what an ending! So, dumb questions (spoilers):

Are we to assume that Chuck actually DID sell at 30? But he let his Dad lose all his money?? Or is the idea that Rhoads Sr. will get it all back when the stock rebounds as Axe's felonious behavior comes to light?

I was lukewarm on season 1 but wow this show got real good in season 2. I also lost my mind when I realized Dollar Bill is Pastor Tim from The Americans

Yeah I remember learning that during the fifth season and was shocked too. Glenn Fleshler's character has a wide range. He's played all kinds of different roles.
