Yes, absolutely. It's startling to go from such a tongue in cheek track as wish you were gay immediately into something as beautiful and emotional as when the party's over.
I genuinely don’t hear the Lorde comparisons. It’s just a very shallow “oh look they’re both young girls” thing
Really enjoying this on first listen. The Threat Level Midnight samples in My Strange Addiction are absurd lol
Billie Eilish performs “when the party’s over” on Ellen: Watch Pretty cool seeing Dave Grohl in the crowd.
Nah, even outside their young age, they both occupy that same sad alt pop territory (which I personally love btw). Definitely not doppelgängers, but certainly similar enough to warrant comparisons. I think Billie Eilish is more diverse and interesting in ways, but not everything hits. This album grows on me more and more though.
I think there’s an argument to be made that this is similar to Lorde’s in the sense that it’s singular vision of the artist and their producer/co-writer. And their producer really knows their quirks and how to channel their personality and talents into a cohesive album. But you could say that for a number of artists right now like St. Vincent, Lana, Meg Myers, etc.
So yeah, after giving this a few more listens, my feelings haven't changed: it's a very good collection of songs that doesn't entirely work as one cohesive whole. That's not to take away from what Billie achieves here; the fact that this is her debut album at seventeen is monumental.
From how her mom acts at the ends of these I'd like to think her family is what grounds her and she'll be okay
So decided to check this out just because I had no idea who she was. It was ok. Nothing I can really see revisiting. EDIT: Actually managed to revisit this.
I wanted to like this a lot, walked away LOVING the production but I feel like this record is just really monotonous. Like, kind of the same thing for 13 songs.
