Yeah I never really gave her a chance before but I listened to both her EP and the album last night and it's WAY better than I was expecting, her voice/melodies are great and her production is consistently amazing. I know it's been said a bunch but I can't believe how young she is
she's def talented none of the songs I hadn't heard before besides Strange Addiction really grabbed me I think I just have a hard time with atmospheric moody music because it's hard for me to make out the lyrics, I also felt like she was mad at me because she knows I'm not cool enough for her haha I guess it's hard because she doesn't feel like pop to me but I can't quite place her in a genre which is a good thing
See that’s interesting because I view this as such a pop album. There are actually a lot of moments on the record that remind me of earlier 2000s pop music. I think her vocal melodies, specifically.
my lucifer is lonelyyyy.... does anyone know about or have experience importing cd's from japan? i wanna buy this to listen to in my car and i need the japanese bonus tracks (mostly when i was older) to be on it haha. what's a good website to use?
Haven't heard her before today. Wow I've been missing out, beautiful voice and songs. That duet with Khalid was awesome
Upon first listen, my initial reaction was that if I took my favorites from this and my favorites from Don't Smile at Me it would be one perfect playlist. But yeah, a few listens in now and this album is fucking great in its own right. Album tonally feels like walking up a hill and then coming down the other side. Kind of an interesting way to sequence an album.
Interesting, mostly effective, but definitely uneven. The sequencing is a bit flawed imo, but it doesn’t take away from my listening experience too much. The album does sort of seem divided between the ambient pop and the more straightforward pop tracks.
Billie Eilish fascinates me. It’s like she was a normal angsty teen who got infused with powers that gave her talent and fame, and now she’s artfully projecting the inner darkness and existential dread that almost every teen in America is feeling (and may or may not be expressing). I can already see her more or less defining a generation. I know she’s already huge but she’s just gonna get huger and huger.
This album is solid. Lorde is the obvious comparison and I don’t think it’s quite as refined or mature as what she did on Pure Heroine, but Billie is definitely carving her own path. “When the Party’s Over” is just stunning. It reminds me of how I felt when I first heard Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek”.
It does, but I don't know if its quite as pronounced on that record as it is here. This album covers even more sonic ground imo. I don't really hear the Lorde comparison tbh. I think, you like said, one could argue that both artists are articulating the thoughts of a similar age group at two different points in time, but I think their musical sensibilities are quite different.
I'm joking. This Billie Eilish album just isn't what I expected. I wanted more stuff that sounds like Bury A Friend or You Should See Me In a Crown. There's only 5 songs on here that I like, the rest I actively dislike.
I like all of this album, but I see what you're getting at. Songs like Copycat and Bellyache from Don't Smile at Me would've really complemented Bury a Friend and You Should See Me in a Crown. Same with Ocean Eyes complementing When the Party's Over on the other side of things. I feel like the two releases could've been split differently, but then again, would a record of only slow songs even be that interesting? Like, yeah, the division is there on her previous release, but I think the sequencing on this just makes it more pronounced and jarring.
I just don't like the way Billie in particular does slow songs (except When The Party's over which is just a league of its own and easily her best song)
This album is amazing and I hope it stays with me through the end of the year as one of my favorites!
