This has taken a bit of time to grow on me, but I finally got around to watching The World's A Little Blurry this week and it gave me a whole new appreciation for her, and this record. Still say the title track is song of the year, quiet first half and all.
Just watched the Disney special, all the songs sounded pretty great. Also, Disney isn’t cool with fuck but shit is fine with them, interesting.
The special was well directed, visually impressive and full of strong performances. No surprise that the “fucks” were censored/not on camera since Disney did the same with Folklore. The odd thing is they have Hugh Jackman throwing down f-bombs in X-Men: Days of Future Past on the same streaming service. As for the album, I wish I could connect with the whole thing. 1/3 of the songs on Happier Than Ever don’t do much for me compared to don’t smile at me and WWAFAWDWG, which engage me from front to back.
Didn’t know what to expect of this Disney+ film but it’s definitely a lovely way to experience the musicianship of this album. Also not sure if any of y’all saw this, but they released an edited version of the track that cuts out the ukulele section and starts at the more celebrated section. Hopefully Billie made the call and not some random person over at Interscope.
Oh wow, that's actually really interesting. My best guess is because the tiktok part happens so late in the original, they released this so people get to that part faster
Disney’s a hoot. One four-letter word crosses the line but somehow the entirety of Oxytocin is family friendly fun.
It hits weird after listening to Happier Than Ever. I just can’t see Billie in that context the same way, and hats off to the record for making me feel that way.
Just watched the Life is Beautiful live set. Her live vocals are still sub-par in the high energy stuff (Bury A Friend/You Should See Me…both these really suffer vocally in particular) Just raise the vocals in the mix, they’re not loud enough and her voice gets lost often.
Do you know where I could get a copy of that? I wasn't able to stay up that late Sunday, so I couldn't record the stream. I have downloads of All Time Low's and Modest Mouse's sets, but missed this one. I love throwing on her Coachella set in the background at home, and would love to get this one too.
Full set is up on YouTube…vocals aren’t great for the first 2-3 songs and the crowd screaming can be a little much. Set gets better when she gets to the newer material and the crowd chills a bit.
my buddy was at the show Sunday and said that the newer/downtempo songs weren't great live because you could barely hear her singing, but the more upbeat ones sounded good. Particularly loved how the title track was live
