NDA is easily my favorite of all the new songs, I hope the rest of the album is similar in vibe/style
nahh, the torrent site i use just uploads most of the good stuff when it hits in the first time zone and I can download. Feel free to DM me if you wanna hear the song before tonight
in general does the rest of the album get a bit more sonically diverse like this, or is a lot of it pretty stripped back / laid back like the other songs?
I would've really loved if Billie decided to work with Trent Reznor on this upcoming record. That Halsey record has me so excited. Billie's debut had a tinge of industrial-influenced noise that could def be explored more. I think her team is pushing her way too much as a "pop star" when I think the alt-pop route would be much more rewarding and fair to her.
I think it's a bit reductive to blame her musical choices on "her team." I think it's extremely clear that billie is pushing her own musical direction, not an amorphous "team"
I think she’s doing whatever she wants and doesn’t really care, as exemplified by the early singles Your Power and My Future. She’s obviously more in tune with herself, and while I do think the label could try to continue to push her as a massive top 40 pop artist, not entirely sure she wants that. Big marketing behind the album and it’ll do well, just maybe not in the way a lot wanted or hope for after the first record - and I think that’s okay. Her and Finneas will continue to rake in oodles of cash too.
She has a massive team pushing her marketing decisions. Granted, Billie and Finn are pushing the music side, I just think the label/team is doing her a major disservice pushing her as a Top 40 singles artist, much like was done to Lorde. So many people refer to Melodrama as a “flop”, when it was actually a fantastic record, just didn’t have a radio hit in it. I think this Billie record might go the same way, not have a radio hit and get labeled a “flop”. It’ll be interesting to see how she moves past that on a third album, give into the pressure of the industry and forge her own path.
On the Hot 100: "Therefore I Am" went to #2, "My Future" went #6, and "Your Power" went #10. "Bad Guy" was #1 forever, but other than that she had no top ten singles off that album. ("Bury A Friend" was #14, "All the Good Girls..." was like 46.) She made interesting art and drove the zeitgeist anyway. I wouldn't count her out, the press tour hasn't started in the slightest!
Yeah, there's no doubt she's still a hell of a force, this album rollout has just been really really modest and sparse.
Reddit so far seems in LOVE with NDA, all positive posts about how they're loving it more than the other singles
My current ranking of the singles would be: My Future Your Power Therefore I Am/NDA Lost Cause Lost Cause is the only one that actually feels underwhelming to me, so I still have a good feeling about this record. Favorite song from WWAGTSWDWG? I'm still infatuated with "ilomilo"
