No Bill Callahan thread on here yet?! Anyways, finally got to see him for the first time last night and he did not disappoint. One of my all time favorite artists, and maybe my absolute favorite songwriter. Nobody says more in less words.
He joined Twitter a little while ago and I thought there was going to be a new album announcement. Nothing, though.
I saw that and thought the same thing, it was a bit of a letdown but I’m hopeful that it means we will at least get a new album this year.
Been getting into the Smog material a lot more over the past year after really only paying attention to the “solo” stuff under his own name and Knock Knock (an all-time favorite). I’ve been kinda obsessed lately with Dongs of Sevotion, which doesn’t seem to get much attention.

I’ve only listened twice, but it’s obviously beautiful. I think I’m going to have to adjust a little to the sound of it—it’s got a loose, rambling quality that contrasts starkly with the last three albums, where it seemed like every single note was thought through—but I’m excited about that. Callahan’s albums always hit me most on the 20th listen than on the first, and that’s one thing I love about him. Best lyrics of the year here too, obviously.
Yeah this one didn’t feel as immediate as the last few, but as you said all his material just gets better with age.
Another new album in September! https://pitchfork.com/news/bill-cal...ium=social&mbid=social_facebook&utm_brand=p4k
I know I’m the only one posting in this thread, but I just had to say that the opening lyric to Pigeons is instantly going to go up there with some of my favorite opening lines to an album ever. “Hello, I'm Johnny Cash Well, the pigeons ate the wedding rice And exploded somewhere over San Anto nio. “
