At least 17-18 tunes road tested so far “Red Moon” “Blue Lightning” “12,000 Lines” “Sparrow” “Little Things” (not played live yet) “Dragon” “Certainty” “Flower of Blood” “Blurred View” “Simulation Swarm” “Spud Infinity” “Change” “Time Escaping” “Dried Roses” “Once a Buncha Times” “Ingydar” (Full Band) Unknown 1 (“Wake Me Up to Drive”) played in IND pre covid: “Happiness” “Bruiser” “Someone 2”
Haha it really does sound terrible but it at least confirms that "touch me" is called "Flower of Blood". Adrianne played it solo on the 2020 tour and there's a video of it on the fb group. I can rip it if you aren't on there
Anyone down to get a Google Doc going with all the new songs listed and links to hear them? I can start one up if folks are willing to help update it.
Here's an updated version of the list I posted recently. Not all of them are streaming links but most are Songs with confirmed names (newest to oldest): - Promise is a Pendulum - Flower of Blood (studio clips, solo version in fb group, full band version low quality) - Blurred View (studio clip, full song at 62:19) - ingydar (full band) - Once a Buncha Times - Red Moon - Blue Lightning (clip) - Change - 12,000 Lines - Only Place (clips, full version in private fb group at 13:45) - Simulation Swarm (solo) - Happiness - Dried Roses (solo at 4:02) - Bruiser - Someone 2 (partial) - Time Escaping - Dragon (solo) - Shadow Too - Spud Infinity (solo) - Oldest (at 40:17) Songs without names: - "wake me up to drive" (at 58:19) - "nobody's boy" (at 2:16:47) - "city up north" (partial) - "no reason to believe" (clips) - "don't know what i'd do with you" (clips) - "formless secret" (at 23:23) - "til i'm brave" (at 29:15) - "the last time" (possibly called Geese) - "cell phone" (possibly called Hear It) - "if love is blind" Titles of unknown songs: - Telepathy - Geese - Calm - Hear It - Phoenix - Lotion edit - added Promise is a Pendulum, "wake me up to drive", Shadow Too, and updated some songs with better versions
Who does Big Thief think we are? Dead Heads? (Totally cool with this). Big Thief is also veering more and more into indie jam. Love it. “Red Moon” gives me big Dead vibes.
Last night's setlist had "Blue Light Night" which I assume is Blue Lightning. Looks like another Two Rivers/Two Reverse situation They also played Red Moon as the encore and did an extended jam where James called for a bass solo and then Adrianne called for a drum solo. I don't think I've ever seen them do that sorta thing before Video stolen from Adrianne's brother
They did do that bass and drum solo thing in Indy it was a ton of fun. They looked like they were having a blast.
Other than say The Mountain Goats and like, Guided By Voices I can’t think of any current bands that are as prolific as Big Thief are. That’s one of the reasons why I love them so much. Nothing against artists who put out one record every couple of years (or longer), but there’s just something about a band putting out great tunes all in a relatively short time span. That’s why they are leagues above other bands IMHO.
And they basically don't miss either which is wild. I love GBV but Pollard writes a bunch of bad songs haha Their range is unreal too. I have no idea how songs like Spud Infinity and Once a Buncha Times are gonna fit on the same record as Dragon and Simulation Swarm but wow I can't wait to find out. Or maybe they don't and we have multiple records coming again!
The album has to be done right? I know Max slipped a insta post about it but could it be not 100% done. Clearly there are some songs that are solidly on the record (namely the 3 officially released), but maybe they’re still working out a track listing.
I would say it has to be done. James's post about the Little Things release says "I won't give the full gush gush just yet cause there will be more opportunities for that". I feel like gush gush wouldn't refer to an unfinished project but who knows. I just hope they don't release even more singles before announcing the full thing. Also Adrianne posted this in her stories on May 30, which I assume was them working on the tracklist. So hopefully they're not still doing that 3:07 is the length of Certainty 5:12 and 5:45 are one second off from Sparrow and Little Things respectively
I don't care how they choose to put this together, I just beg that Simulation Swarm and Dragon are on the first release if there's more than one haha. Cannot stop thinking about those songs after seeing them live twice last weekend (also the other ones, especially Change, but the two "heavier" ones are what blew me away the most)
