Whoops, just realized what thread this was haha. I thought this was Buck's thread when I wrote that reply.
New livestream coming April 29th through NoonChorus. It's a recording of their last full US show from Columbus, OH 2019/11/11 Big Thief
They have a new album coming out this summer and Buck said they wrote more music than ever on his Bandsintown Q&A, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get multiple albums this year again.
Haven't seen summer mentioned before. Was that from Buck's workshops? Their merch store has a new shirt design and a leather guitar strap which ship mid-May to early June. I suspect we'll get some sort of announcement by then. The guitar strap is engraved with "I believe in you" which is a lyric in the chorus of this song:
Not new album related but 7 out of 8 Pencil songs have recently popped up in the ASCAP repertory. Could be re-releasing them, could be nothing
The new album this summer news comes from his workshop. Someone who attended mentioned it to me. Them writing more songs than ever comes from his Bandsintown Plus W&A which I watched.
Adrianne and Buck both announced solo tours recently. Based on these dates, I don't think we'll see any large Big Thief tours until February
They were set to play Pitchfork Fest in Chicago last summer, which is supposedly happening September 10-12 now. I doubt they are playing anymore though which is good because I’ll be out of town that weekend. I can’t see them gearing up Big Thief only to wind down and do solo tours just a month or two later.
It’s interesting though, because if what Buck said is correct and they are in fact releasing a new record this summer, you’d think they’d want to play some shows around the time of its release
Adrianne previously posted looking for a band rehearsal space in LA for July and August. So maybe some September shows? At the moment they're still scheduled to play End of the Road festival in the UK in September but all of their other festival dates fell through so I'm guessing they won't play just that one.
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but is it possible the album is coming so soon that touring won't be reopening reasonable yet? I suppose it'd still beg the question of why fill the fall with solo tours, but if the album is coming in June I can understand why there wouldn't be a tour around it. editing to further talk myself into unrealistic dreams - they did say there is an absolute crapload of new material, right? june album, fall solo tours, january album, february tour, profit?
Maybe! It’s also not like it’s unheard of for bands to announce dates 6 months+ out. Or it could be a case of staggering smaller legs before and after the solo stuff. Lots of possibilities.
She did have a solo tour scheduled before the big US tour in 2020 so maybe there was some sort of obligation to reschedule that one first I was about to post the same theory. I think there's a pretty strong chance this is what happens
Today's the day they are streaming their last live US show from 2019 - tickets here. Phil Weinrobe's IG story said that he audio recorded several (maybe all) shows from that tour so maybe we'll hear more someday. Here is an audio recording of their actual last live show from Copenhagen in 2020 - Vega (early show). It includes 4 new songs. Also tomorrow is the last day of the Abolition 2021 concert series. It includes one song performed by Adrianne plus a bunch of other artists including Courtney Marie Andrews, Sam Amidon, Johanna Samuels, Jolie Holland. The proceeds go towards a new hospitality house outside of the Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola). - tickets here
