Don't feel bad! I love both records from this year and as I was talking about earlier, there are still four tracks combined from both releases that I just don't get. The band doesn't always go for hooks and if you aren't willing to follow the vocals through some of the meanderings, or if you need a little more substance to a track than it has (looking at you, Terminal Paradise and Magic Dealer) than it just may not work for you. I'd say that this band has special moments that are so high that it makes me overlook other deficiencies. The title track to UFOF and "Not" are great examples of that. They definitely are not a "perfect" band in my eyes - just a band with perfect moments.
"Cattails" might still be my favorite Big Thief song, but at least the next three on the list are all on Two Hands ("Not," "Shoulders," "Forgotten Eyes"). Two Hands is an incredibly good album but U.F.O.F. is even better--for me it's one of the best records anyone's made this decade.
UFOF, Betsy, and Jenni are probably the top 3, and then I’d throw in Orange and Contact. Cattails is great, don’t get me wrong.
