Pretty sure someone’s already said this in one of their threads, but this band needs a taper community.
Finally got to this - I liked it but definitely didn't leave it feeling nearly as wowed as I have on past records. I could see it being a grower. For me the production, while objectively solid and in line with their past albums, felt a bit oddly subdued in a way that lessened the impact of the album. But I don't feel like this is my final opinion on the album by a longshot, there's a lot here lyrically that was hitting me and I'm excited to let this one slowly blossom.
Buck says the next album is already done. From van life in L.A. to Hollywood Bowl: Big Thief's steady climb continues
Didn’t they say that after Dragon too lol and well Just don’t think the UFOF / Two Hands move will ever happen again
Dragon was a double album and this album is 9 songs with many more having been recorded before being whittled down, so I can see this being a UFOF/Two Hands case where the next album comes out fairly soon.
In 2022, there was one interview where Buck suggested they were going to release the rest of the Dragon sessions but it was translated from Japanese and may not be exactly what he meant. Around the same time, James did an interview where he said maybe one day they'll "release the archives" which made it sound like there was no immediate plan for them. Other than those comments, I think everything else was just speculation and hope from fans that there would be more. This time around they did a whole separate recording session, similar to UFOF/Two Hands. I don't think this will include the 6-7 Double Infinity bsides. The exact quote is: I don't think there's any question that another album is coming. But there is also a new Buck album that's ready to go so we'll see which one they choose to release first. A new Buck tour was announced today so I'm guessing Buck first and BT second
Forest Hills was amazing. They brought out Laraaji and guests to do all of this album. On the encore he came back out and did Not and Masterpiece too. Was really hoping to get “How Could I Have Known” so really lucked out Also got 2 new songs, I believe; one had a line like “4.5 rating” or something. Good track. One of the guest singers was Hannah Cohen(?) I don’t know her but everyone around me was freaking out that she was there
Wow great set. Full album front to back. still chuckle when I listen to the record and realize how good of a band you have to be for people to call Double Infinity minor or a flop. It’s pretty much perfect.
It was Hannah Cohen!! She has a great album called Earthstar Mountain that came out pretty recently. Highly recommend. I'm also going to echo all the sentiments surrounding last night's show. Truly otherworldly stuff happening at Forest Hills last night.
That Forest Hills show looks incredible. This just seems like a band that’s in a perfect space right now and making music that is reflecting it. Wow;
Seconding the Hannah Cohen love. I dunno who or how big her audience is, but Earthstar Mountain has quietly been one of my most played albums this year
that song is called Muscle Memory I don't know Hannah Cohen's work very well but this performance of an early Earthstar Mountain song is my favorite thing I've heard from her.
