Man I don’t get some of the response to this. I think it’s really good. Maybe their bar is too high or something but this would be better than a lot of their peers best IMO.
I am curious to see if we get another record in 2026. They’re obviously still very prolific, based on what we’ve heard about these sessions and the Dragon sessions. Sounds like so many songs floating around out there. Very curious about the tour and if we’ll start to hear some new songs alongside the Double Infinity tracks. also, I just still find this record to be so lovely. I think after numerous spins by favorites are “Los Angeles” and “Double Infinity”.
Was feeling let down/unsure about this at first but ended up loving it by the end of the album. Grandmother is stunning. The closer is also instantly god tier Big Thief for me.
I literally came to bump this thread to say exactly this, and come to see it posted only two posts above…but fuck it, I gotta post it anyway. I was going to post some snippet of lyrics but it’s just the whole damn song. It is incredible.
I don’t understand how a song like Los Angeles can be this good. I could say this about like 95% of their catalogue but where does this magic come from?! album has been hitting so hard the past couple days
Yea Steven Hyden was saying on IndieCast that there’s no song that just knocks you on your ass and I’m like……have you heard “Los Angeles” or “Double Infinity”?
It seems likely, just given their track record. Last two album cycles have been double records. UFOF/Two Hands, and Dragon which is a tru blue double album. their discography does have this pairs theme to it in general. The cover art of Capacity and Masterpiece have synchronicity. The art for UFOF/Two Hands. Dragon is two records. Would make sense.
having looked into this more I found out the first 4 songs on that Passional Relations EP they put out for charity are from the Dragon sessions, so at least we got some of them lol man they're absolute tunes too, Imagination is easily one of their best
Some of those Dragon bside songs were re-recorded for Bright Future too. Hopefully we get the rest some day As for a follow-up album, it is suspected that they recorded in Nashville a few months ago. These are the hints so far: 1 - On May 3, they posted this request to borrow a table and chairs for three weeks. In the past, they've mentioned how significant group meals are while recording. Then three weeks later on May 22, Buck posted that he was at a Gillian Welch concert at the Ryman. 2 - Recently someone posted on reddit that Iris Dement said she recently worked with Big Thief but it is supposed to be a secret. Iris is one of the heroes/inspirations that they've mentioned in the past. Maybe not related but last year they also went to Nashville briefly to write together with Lucinda Williams 3 - In the Incomprehensible announcement, they referred to the songs on the album as "this batch", suggesting maybe there is another batch. Double Infinity was recorded end of January, album released 7.5 months later. If they follow the exact same timeline, a second album could come mid-January. I don't think they'll do that but I do suspect it will be out before the European tour in April
Everything they’ve released has been fantastic, but this is the most I’ve connected with an entire album of theirs since UFOF. And yeah, No Fear has grown on me big time.
