the one-two punch of No Fear/Grandmother is reeeal slow haha, gonna hope that clicks on repeat listens this is really nice otherwise but it's not blowing me away
Yeah No Fear was a slog on my first listen. It’s not a bad song, but it kind of stopped the album in its tracks for me. Hopefully that one will grow on me.
I really liked a live video I watched of No Fear last year, I wonder if it’s much different than that performance.
Felt the same on initial listen. It’s probably the one that grew on me the most. Love the “rock n roll” refrain.
This is good so far. The lead singles are the best tracks, but that may because I played them a bunch. Los Angeles is a stunner and up there with my favorite Big Thief songs.
yeah I think Grandmother will grow on you. that peak moment where Laraaji kinda takes lead vocals is just so good also he wasn't asked to sing, he was just feeling it so much that he started. that makes me love it so much more
Threw this on for listen two while I fake-napped and loved it. (But, and I’m not joking, I fell asleep during No Fear and woke up 3/4 through Grandmother, lol)
I’m loving this. I didn’t listen to the singles too much so those are all hitting. This feels like it’s really Krivchenia’s album, the drumming / rhythms are all so good. I like No Fear. The live versions on YouTube are good but I think the album version embraces the zen koan feel of the lyrics. It’s kind of like the yang to Not’s yin
This is good. Interesting after so many albums and solo albums that are so classic songwriter-y at their core to get what sounds on first listen like a vibes first record. Almost feels like Big Thief doing a specific kind of Broken Social Scene song at points. Good first listen and seems like it’ll grow on me further too.
That’s a great call. Not that far from “Capture the Flag”/“KC Accidental” I love this obviously. I think the only thing on first blush that’ll take me a second to get used to is the vocal take on “Happy With You”. But that’s probably because the live version is something I have adored for awhile. holy Neil Young “How Could I Have Known”
