I'm not entire sure how I feel about it all. I know he's definitely misogynistic and did a lot of bad shit, but not even reddit can find evidence of racism. Let me reiterate, not even reddit.
I have so many thoughts on how last night was handled, so in short, people need to be called out for their bullshit, but this also very much felt like CBS trying to wash the blame away even though they're just as much of the problem. Also congrats to @quietwords for winning the league! Here is your prize
I have mixed emotions about winning the league with such a douche of a person! Did you happen to keep the receipt for that prize?
No fucking way!? Really? I had the same impression as Steve - while he is definitely an arrogant misogynist who takes himself waaaayyyy too seriously, I never picked up on the other shit.
Is this real? I saw a video of them imitating monkeys or something, but I couldn't really condemn them for it since it was out of context and there was no audio.
i think people eventually agreed that they didn't actually say the n word in that clip. but there were a lot of smaller moments like randomly wondering if david had ever been arrested and suggesting he's a messy person etc
After letting things settle overnight, and reading a few things, I think CBS really fucked up last night. I am fully on board with what they did to Jack, they showed clips and then asked him about it. Michie was not offered anything like that, just told that something he did could be construed as racist, and out him directly on the spot. I think that's pretty obviously done for ratings. the whole segment looked like CBS was just trying to show that they now suddenly care about these kind of things, it didn't feel genuine, especially from Julie Moonves. I'm all for calling out Michie, but not like that and not FOR that. If Julie showed him clips of him being misogynistic, or inappropriate, or anything else... then asked him about those clips, and THEN he ended the show all bummed like that... it would have been fair. But there's no evidence of racism, and CBS dropped a bomb with no evidence right before he won half a million dollars. It's fucked
Totally agree. Talking with my sisters today I was saying Julie came off as aggressive and her and CBS made it feel so awkward and forced. Though admittedly made for some good trashy entertainment.
oh for sure, it WAS entertainment, and crazy to watch, but at what cost?!?!?! I hope Michie can get past it and work to better himself, he does have a lot of good qualities
I think a lot of those problems could have been solved if the segment was longer. I wish they didn’t cram this in on the same night as the Survivor premiere every year and it could be a full 2 hour finale. Julie was CONSTANTLY rushing through everything the whole night it felt like.
A full 2 hour finale would be awesome. I would have liked to hear more from the non-jury members as well.
Did Sam even say one thing? I remember at least a moment for the others. Ovi with the Gr8ful bullying, Kemi calling people out, Bella/Nick, and David of course with the Michie situation. Can't remember Sam having any significance last night.
Pretty much how I felt, just was having a hard time putting it in words that made sense. This wasn’t about Michie being an ass, this was 100% about CBS which is a shame because they could’ve made a real statement. Jackson could be martyred coming out of this which definitely should not be the case.
I definitely think it was a disservice to everyone involved to bring up Michie’s potential racism without the time to properly discuss it. Also there were so many other, much more apparent character flaws they could’ve nailed him for.
I don't know why they were acting like Bella was innocent either, she was probably the worst bully in the house, and apparently she even had a boyfriend when she went in the house and cheated with Nick so she's also a total hypocrite
