I don't think the article is saying that you can't appreciate it, but that it is in everyone's best interests if you recognize specific signifiers and messages that are intended for a specific group. Also, I don't think it's fair to look at this and say "she didn't do enough."
Yeah and I get that, I just haven't really seen anyone saying or doing otherwise, so I guess I'm feeling like the people who that article was intended to be for aren't the people who are gonna see it/read it. It's not that I feel that she didn't do enough, the album accomplished exactly what she set out to do, it just would've been nice to see people like Rapsody or TOKiMONSTA or Carla Azar on the album. It's not like Jack White or Kendrick need the features to launch their careers ya know? Edit: I mean it makes sense to have a man like Jack White do his part because he's supposed to be the guy she's speaking to, I just mean in general across the album. I realize there's not many female producers to pick from
I'll need to give this more listens... my early impressions are that I really respect the themes and subject material, and a lot of the music is great, but it's not quite on the level of the self-titled for me, which is an album I've really grown to love over the last week or so. This is a very different album though, so that comparison isn't really fair. I like all the different genre influences that are turned into something that feels fresh and new. As a whole, it feels a little disjointed to me, but I haven't seen the visuals yet and I've had two people tell me that ties it all together better than the album alone does, so I'm going to hold off on that critique until I can watch.
Someone I'm friends with posted this article and I LAID into him on Facebook. Beyonce is Destroying Your Daughter, Not Empowering Her
Oh man, I couldn't even make it halfway through that article. I'd love to see what you said to the guy who posted that article on Facebook.
This album wasn't as immediate for me as her self titled, but it's growing on me at an alarmingly fast rate.
all 12 tracks are on the hot 100 right now, which is a record for a female artist (bieber did 17 with purpose) All 12 of Beyonce's 'Lemonade' Tracks Debut on Hot 100
A fair amount is probably due to the integration of YouTube and other streaming into the metrics for Hot 1oo (see "Panda"s meteoric rise), but the video is not on YouTube, and the single is only on Apple Music (right?)
I'm going to guess that Billboard hasn't released the algorithm for rankings, right? Like what extra boost she would potentially get from a music video on YouTube
Does TIDAL report their numbers? I know for a while they didn't with Pablo, or maybe that was just sales not streams? So complicated
Services can pick and choose when to report. Tidal usually does, but chose not to for Kanye I guess. I don't really know why.
