I like the front half. Kinda meh about most of the back half. She got me all hyped and angry with her and then when she starts talking about forgiveness and making it work I'm like oh.
Looks like it'll be available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon tonight, but streaming rights will be exclusive to Tidal permanently. HITS Daily Double : Rumor Mill - LEMONADE: DOWNLOAD TONIGHT, TIDAL FOREVER
Very awesome that Mark Romanek was involved, I love Never Let Me Go and a lot of his other work. Ethan Tobman, production designer on Room, was also involved. Looking forward to diving a little deeper into what these other filmmakers have done, particularly Khalil Joseph, who's worked with Kendrick and Flying Lotus and was a small part of the brilliant Spike Jonze/Kanye West short film from like, seven years ago.
Who Directed 'Lemonade'? The 7 Filmmakers Behind Beyoncé's Visual Album Cool to learn Khalil Joseph shot b-roll on Terrence Malicks' To the Wonder (a masterpiece fwiw).
I enjoyed it, but her spoken interludes were kind of distracting and boring. I might change my mind as I rewatch it
So how important are the visuals to the record? I'm not super interested in that but if it really adds to the record I'd watch it (haven't listened yet)
Watching the HBO special is how I heard the album for the first time. The visuals are amazing and I can only assume they add to the songs because I was glued to that tv so hard. It was fantastic.
Album is great, obviously. Self titled felt like it had a more singular vision but I love the risks she took on this one.
Honestly, aside from a few singles, I'm not really on the Beyonce train, but Lemonade melted my brain from a visual and editing standpoint. I have so many questions...I wish I was a fly on the wall for what the edit room was like in deciding what shots go in where and why/when to reintroduce clips throughout. My goodness. Hold Up, Sorry, and Daddy Lessons are top favs.
Gonna kind of dismiss my post from 10 minutes ago....ultimately there's only 2 tracks out of the 12, lyrically, that I'm not big on. Love Draught and Sandcastles.
