I hope she releases a complete version with the Cowboy Carter album art. I like that way more than the Beyince one.
would love a box to match RENAISSANCE, complete with printed single sleeve jackets and a massive booklet. just need to find some protective outer sleeves that fit these boxes.
I believe that is what’s coming to records stores on the 12th edit: nvm I checked again and it’s not that
Hot Damn is 28 minutes long. If you need more you better have a good fucking reason before I start screaming TONIGHT I'M COMING HOME IN A COMA
American Requiem is one of my favorite tracks so far so seeing a tracklist without it hurts me to my core
Yeah, that's probably my most controversial "I don't like this song" opinion for this album. @cshadows2887 has my back, though!
You must, must, must fix the auto-capitalization for II Most Wanted and II Hands II Heaven, it hurts me
Thinking “II HANDS II HEAVEN” is a bad title… honestly belongs in the bad opinions thread. Also, dunno if this is an unpopular opinion. But, I’m very into committing to whatever capitalization approach the artist picked. If you format in all caps or all lowercase, I’m sticking with it!
I think what is annoying me about Jolene is that women are socialized so much to be forgiving of men's behavior, especially certain marginalized groups. Obv I'm not a black woman so I can't speak on that specific cultural piece, but girl you're gonna be this ride or die for Jay z?? I don't blame her because he got with her when she was very young and imo she was likely groomed, but I don't believe for a second if the roles were reversed and she had cheated that Jay z would go through this big public thing of forgiving her. Like sis yes that IS all it took for someone to come between a family and your man. I can't divorce the song from the public discourse and knowledge because I feel like their brand and relationship is too tied up in their music by this point. Women always expected to forgive and be the bigger person and stand by our man and blah blah and it's just a bummer to have it all in song form. I'm sure this is an unoriginal and played out take by this point but I haven't rly looked at the album discourse yet and still haven't finished the last part of the album. I'm sure there are black women with a far more nuanced and better take than this but it's just exhausting to hear.
one reason why i get annoyed when Apple Music fucks up the capitalization. not the same context, but i remember over a decade ago when iTunes listed The A Team by Ed Sheeran as "The a Team"
This kind of post is so exhausting to me. You’re going to go to the mat over a titling convention? Really?
Swap out Daughter for My Rose and that’s my track list exactly My Rose is such a short little interlude but I feel like it tacks on to the end of Protector so nicely
Yeah, because I genuinely love that titling convention, lol. I have a post on the last page, from earlier today, saying as much. It’s just extremely my shit, ok?
I'm not against that swap. I like "Daughter" because I think it has some of that "I was watching all these western movies" energy to it, but "My Rose" is nice enough. I also cut all the interludes that it was possible to cut, just for economy's sake (the ones at the end are harder to slice off, because they're built to be seamless continuations of other tracks).
Also, going to drop a rec for the last album by Cam, who is a pretty key cowriter on a bunch of songs on this album, and whose contributions are (to me, at least) very audible.
