We reach for the longest shadow

This is so unhinged and off the rails in the best way possible. I can't stop grinning and laughing at what I'm hearing. This is like progmetal made to be the background music for a western or steampunk bar brawl.

This is their best song since Parallax. Both songs so far have felt very Great Misdirect era to me.

They absolutely slayed some wild covers on their cover album back in the day, they'll probably do a great rendition of this.

The intro riff to that sounds super Coheed-esque

They've done it again. Another mindfuck of album and I love it.

  10. Lots to take in as usual. The last three songs seems like one of their best stretches. Slow Paranoia stands out with its Disney villain sounding section, and the soft moments on the following two songs take me back to those on The Great Misdirect. Can’t wait to spend more time with this overall.

Contemplating seeing them in February as well!

debating hopping over to catch them with the world is a beautiful place out of the sheer absurdity of that bill lol, intrigued to hit this tonight. this band is spotty for me after colors but i liked the single

ima be honest this did not land for me. maybe i need to spend more time
with it but the idea of listening to it again feels herculean rn. they indulged very heavily into a lot of my least qualities of theirs. wouldn't really say any of it is bad rather than just not being for me, but uh boy is it not for me lol

God Terror is a straight up industrial song ripped from Godflesh’s playbook.

I fell off this band after Colors, but man this is some solid stuff.

Colors is where they really hit their stride, but I'd argue Parallax II and maybe even The Great Misdirect are better. I also have a soft spot for Coma Ecliptic, and Colors II is also fantastic. But yeah, this is another barnburner of an album in a long line of barnburners.

I loved everything up to Colors, and then for some reason or another I didn't love what I heard from The Great Misdirect so I just completely ignored the rest. Definitely going to do a deep dive on the discography very soon.

I wish I liked the band's later albums more. Coming from someone who got into them during The Silent Circus, it's been hard constantly evolving with them into more melodic, heavily progressive territory.

Still loved Colors and TGM. They fell off for me after that for some reason. I've been trying ever since and nothing's clicked.

  20. The Great Misdirect and both Parallax releases remain my favorites. Coma Elliptic does nothing for me and Automata is a bit of a blur. More partial to Colors II because it's the album that actively got me back into the band.

I fell off around the great misdirect and coma ecliptic after getting into them with Alaska. Automata I brought me back around though, and made me realize every album is pretty dang good. I don’t really go back to self titled or the silent circus though, but for what they are they’re pretty good.

Alaska is their best and everything else trails close behind

Not fully sold on this so far but the solo near the end of Beautifully Human is their best in years. Maybe since TGM.

colors 2 didnt sound like it understood what made colors great.

in retrospect after hearing this new one, this and colors 2 ARE fun. when youre throwing so much material, its not all gonna be great you just gotta take it as it comes, moment by moment - im no longer looking for them to give me a fully satisfying song.

that said, theres so many genres that are ripe to be btbam-ified. instead theyre stuck back on circus music, chickenpicken, and show tunes AGAIN. the circus stuff is groanworthy at this point and i hate showtunes.
