For example, here's a stellar track by Arkells that I later found out featured vocals by Kathleen Edwards

Here's another one, this track by The Weakerthans was a long-time favorite of mine and I later found out the guest vocals were done by Amy Millan of Stars

I assume this is well known, but it's the only one I can think of. Greg Puciato on Every Time I Die's "The Marvelous Slut".

Natalie Maines throughout Dan Wilson's Free Life.
Emmylou Harris throughout Bright Eyes' I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning.
Esme Patterson throughout Shakey Graves' And the War Came. I didn't know who she was at the time of the album's release, then became a big fan of her own We Were Wild last year and then had the moment of realization the first time I listened to "Dearly Departed" after that.

Lol these are funny answers, "Gotye ft. Kimbra" and "Boys Like Girls ft. Taylor Swift" would've tipped most people off.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Laura Marling was actually in Noah and the Whale for this album, and was dating the lead singer. I believe their next (and best) album, The First Days of Spring, is about their breakup.
