Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five Band

Benjamin Scott "Ben" Folds (born September 12, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. From 1995 to 2000, Folds was the frontman and pianist of the alternative rock band Ben Folds Five. After the group temporarily disbanded, Folds performed as a solo artist and has toured all over the world.

Didnt realize we dont have a Ben Folds thread so here I am. Discovered him, along with Rilo Kiley and The Weakerthans, through my love of MCS and them doing a cover of some of his songs live. Great piano player and songwriter.

So Whatever And Ever, Amen is like one of the best indie rock/pop albums ever.

 

First concert I went to was Ben Folds. Guy is really an incredible musician. Songs For Silverman is one of those albums that had a profound impact on me and has stuck with me ever since.

 

Can't believe there wasn't a thread for him yet! Top 5-10 favorite artist without a doubt. Ben Folds Live is one of my most listened to records. So much fun.

He did that on his most recent tour too and it was great although it seemed like everybody just requested the same 7-8 songs. Someone did request Give Judy My Notice though, which was a nice deeper cut that he had to look up the lyrics for

Battle of Who Could Care less was one of the first singles I ever bought. Had a minute long live cover of Hava Nagila and some weird studio jam song that was obviously made up on the spot with them talking before and after. Probably one of the greatest single of all time tbh

So today he announced he's doing a run of shows in (relatively covid-free) Australia! Apparently he's been staying in the country since March. Managed to snag a ticket to his show with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra for a few weeks. Last time I saw him perform with them it was one of the best concerts I've been to.

 

Jealous. This summer he posted that he’s been working on an album as well. Maybe you’ll get to hear some new tunes
