10/10 series for me. Just binged the entire thing and it's a fucking rollercoaster. Easily, easily the best thing I've watched all year.
Yeah, probably could have been a little tighter. But man, so good. Ali Wong is a natural and Steven Yeun is fantastic. That last episode is great.
Just watched episode 5, I have enjoyed it all so far but this one stuck out to me as particularly brilliant. The scenes with George, his mother, Paul, and the friend Naomi…it’s when I started to realize that ALL these characters are miserable, not just the main two. The way they are each caught up in their individual worlds, but they all have the same problems (loneliness, anxiety, money) at the root.
First half is stronger but overall great. Steven Yeun shines so much in everything he's in. He's got so much, ehm rizz as the kids say.
Thinking about this more, it feels pretty close to the vibe of the better seasons of “Fargo” - lots of very selfish people doing awful things, with some fantastical elements thrown in. At the end, I feel like this is way more optimistic about the human condition. But definitely got that “Fargo” feeling. Also, the more I think about the ending, the more I think the husband shooting Danny is pretty unnecessary. I think he was already done dealing with Amy and despite getting knocked out by him, doesn’t seem like he would automatically shoot him once he saw him. They could have easily just been discovered and Danny still lands in the hospital and you can still have that great final shot. Just seems like a little bit of a fumble.
Binged this all except the finale yesterday and gonna finish tonight hopefully. I was hooked episode one and it just kept getting better and better. Entire cast does a fantastic job, even the little girl playing Junie is believable. Maybe one of the best netflix originals I've ever seen tbh. Also the needle drops have been *chefs kiss* the entire show.
Just finished episode 4 and I think I actively hate this. Feel like I’m watching an entirely different show than all the hype reviews.
That’s exactly how i felt about “Shrinking.” But I would say if you’re not on board by episode 4, I don’t think it’s your thing.
Quite good. Felt like an interesting anthology series while watching it and did some reading after wrapping it up and that's how Lee Sung Jin originally pitched it. I had some ehhh reactions to how it wrapped up but overall really loved it. Great performances across the board. I'm not super familiar with Wong but she does some incredible work here.
Big fan of Wong's standup, and she was good in Always Be My Maybe, but she does some stellar work here. One of Yeun's best performances as well.
Yeah Ali Wong was incredible, I've seen her stand-ups but I don't think I've seen her act in anything
