Today I’m thrilled to introduce everyone to a new band called Bec Lauder and The Noise, a three-piece rock band born in the East Village of Manhattan. Front-woman Bec Lauder alternates between guitar and bass while delivering top notch vocals. She’s joined by lead guitarist Soph Shreds and on drums is Maggie Bishop. Their new single, “Give It” is a great mix of Riot Grrrl punk rock paired with great songwriting. Lauder shared, “‘Give It’ is a fantastically funky anthem to strut down the street to. This sultry tune lures the listener into a psychedelic funk pop dream world through sexy repetitive and rhythmic lyrics that you cannot resist dancing to. This song is paired with a flash dance style music video featuring me and a crew of dancers from the Brooklyn Nets dance team, even further emphasizing the idea of the ‘Give It’ fantasy; a world where you get what you want and you can shake it like nothing matters.” If you’re enjoying the new video, please consider pre-ordering the band’s debut LP, The Vessel here.

You called “Give It” a “funky anthem to strut down the street to.” What was the first image or feeling that sparked the idea for this track?

”Give It”, to me, is the ultimate feeling of desire, turned sexy. I was falling in love at the time, I had such a strong desire for this person and this life that felt SO CLOSE, but was not mine yet. I believe that Tim wrote the bassline and from there, the words just fell into place and “Give It” was born!

The song blends funk, psychedelia, and pop — how did you land on that sound palette for this track?

”Give It”’s sonic palette is really a lovechild of my first EP and the upcoming, rock heavy, album. I had just put out my first EP, Before Everything Changes, and was not happy with the depth of the music that I was about to tour in Europe with Two Feet (August 2023). We wrote “Give It”, right before leaving that tour and were able to squeeze it into that set list days before our first show. To me, this song was the perfect transitional piece to show my listeners the depth that I can bring to the table, whilst still presenting in a digestible, “pop” format. By the end of that tour, it was everyone’s favorite song and it only felt right to feature it as a single on this upcoming LP.

How did the video collaboration with the members of Brooklyn Nets dance team come together, and what did you want the choreography to communicate?

My vision for the “Give It” music video was always rooted in a flash dance concept. After being introduced to choreographer and former Brooklyn Nets dancer Sophie Olszak through a mutual friend, the collaboration came together effortlessly. Working with the incredible group of dancers—a mix of current and former Nets performers, along with other talented professionals—was an absolute dream. They pushed me to dance harder than ever and inspired so much of what you see in the video.

Sophie Olszak: After listening to the song and understanding its message about claiming what’s rightfully yours, I wanted the choreo to reflect that same sense of empowerment and raw energy. We are all confident, talented, women so I knew the movement would naturally feel powerful and sexy without needing to lean into explicitly “sexual” choreography. More than anything I just wanted to convey a sense of power and how freeing it feels to step into your confidence.
