Made me feel pretty bad and sick. Also made me laugh a lot. Good movie, don’t think it entirely stuck the landing but I’ll be thinking about it
This is also how I felt on first watch. And then I couldn't stop thinking about it, lol. Really stuck with me.
The first hour reminds me of my apartment at Penn State. Not that it was like the slums around the area, but people were constantly drunkenly walking into our apartment and our doors never locked. I’d have to get up for student teaching and my roommates would be throwing a party and would have the DJ equiptment set up right outside my door. My room was like my only safe haven, and people always thought it was the bathroom so in the middle of the night with loud music blasting I’d have people jiggling my door handle or banging on the door. Then my door got kicked in during one party and it never locked again and I lived in constant fear of someone coming in while I was sleeping (they did, more than once). Good times
Sleeping on this, I liked it a lot. Very funny. First hour/the apartment stuff is perfect. Animated sequence ruled. Nathan Lane was great. Lost me with the mom twist/penis monster and definitely the ending. I did like the terror of your mom hearing all of your therapist conversations.
I always felt the Mom stuff fit right in with the rest of the movie, it never struck me as over the top
With any dark-but-CGI-heavy scene, I typically assume that they intentionally make it too dark in order to mask just how bad the CGI would have looked if it was well-lit lol
i visited the bar that replaced it several years ago and it was a little questionable (plus it's in the heart of the downtown area), so the Beau comparison definitely tracks given how many undergrads frequent the area. i was living behind the high school in a 60 year old building that used to be condos, and visually it reminded me a bit of Beau's building given how run down it was
