There was a time in my life where the street outside of my apartment at the time was not THAT much less scary as beau’s in the beginning, and those fears of people getting inside the building were entirely too relatable.
People DID try to get in the front door when I was getting home at night sometimes.

There's an underpass in Austin that's close to the ARCH.

I've lost track of how many times I've seen college kids and tourists getting chased through the street coming out from under it.

It's a nightmarish place and Aster really brought it to life with some of that imagery. Some of that was really funny, but a lot of it was a little too close to home.

How does this compare to Hereditary and Midsommar in terms of being deeply unsettling? I'm somewhat interested in this, but I would rather not have another experience as I did with those movies (aka - ones that left me disturbed for days after).

I hear you cus Midsommar is like the most disturbed I've ever felt from a movie. This did not bother me like that at all. It's unsettling to an extent, but it's also really over the top and sometimes straight up goofy at times, which offsets that feeling quite a bit.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

I don't think this tops Midsommar in that department. The reason (for me) that movie was so disturbing is because of all the horrifying things happening in a bright and beautiful environment in broad daylight. For as unsettling as this movie is, there are more than enough hilarious moments that ease the tension, at least for me.

Thanks. Is there anything as fucked up as the tailpipe exhaust scene, elder suicide ritual, or bear suit scenes?

Parts of this made me more anxious than either Hereditary or Midsommar. If the whole movie had been like the opening act I might have had to leave. I think on a second watch it won’t be as upsetting and the comedy will stand out more, but it’s incredibly hard to judge how each person will react to it in comparison.

  11. In terms of on-screen violence, and generally based on what you're getting at, no and I wouldn't call this disturbing in the same way those films are (even if it is in its own way)

I felt very high during the storybook sequence the longer it went on for. I was stone cold sober seeing this. Great stuff

Midsommmar still has a hold on me but it’s the only one of his that I’ve watched more than once. Such a strange one that. It’s comforting & beautiful but terrible & unsettling.

Beau just made me uncomfortably laugh a lot & without a real urge to watch again. Bet that will change with time though.

I did not love or hate this, but I WAS the only person who laughed when Elaine says that his cum “burst through the bag.”

Bizarre choices like that definitely kept me at arm’s length a little bit.

there’s also a good laugh to be had right before that when they tastefully show the full extent of Beau’s …distention…

I’ve decided after these first hour though that this no longer qualifies as a comedy lol.

Aster has a way of framing things and drenching them in horror that even moments that could be played for laughs, like the guy above the bathtub, are less funny than they are terrifying imo.

  21. Idk man, guy above the bathtub had me cracking up to. I can't explain it. And the song choice during the sex scene is so fucking funny. Also "A Thousand Miles" while they do a puzzle of their dead son lmao. Christ

Martin is making me sad that it’s not in a theater within 50 miles of me yet. Been successfully avoiding spoilers but I’m always so tempted to read the reactions.
