I feel like this band should be a household name. Appeals to punk, metal, emo, alt-rock kids I feel. Accessible but not corny.
It's not without a few corny moments but man if this album isn't truly uplifting. Mostly all of it works for me especially the slower songs.
This might sink in as purely one of my favorite albums ever. It's just so accessible to enjoy in any mood and at any moment. By far my favorite from them.
The positivity of this album is infectious. It’s amazing that he can write such ferocious riffs and deal with things that are depressing but in a way that paints to the way out, instead of wallowing in it. There isn’t enough of that, as far as I know. As a guy who struggles a ton with mental health for most of the last decade, it’s something that makes me feel good to listen to as opposed to angry music that makes me feel like someone else feels like I do but doesn’t get to the root cause of what or how to get better.
It seems like his shows are selling well. For whatever reason, this record and Below’s thread were less than 10 pages combined despite being terrific releases. No idea why on a site where folks clearly like some heavier tunes he doesn’t get the pub his talent deserves.
I don't think pop-oriented metalcore has ever been really big in the Chorus scene. A lot of good releases have gone under the radar the last couple years from bands like Beartooth, Erra, Wage War, Memphis may fire, Wolves at the gate, Pop Evil etc.
i've been spinning this pretty solidly for the last few weeks - it's an AOTY contender for sure. one interesting thing i'll share: i've been learning how to play beartooth songs on guitar since the first EP, and with this album in particular it's been a blast. there's SO much joy in the riffs. to balance relative technicality with fun and catchiness is so difficult and caleb does it consistently. currently tied with below with just how much fun they are to play.
I think as a whole this album is pretty mediocre, which is disappointing after thinking Riptide was a SOTY contender. But that’s more my personal tastes, I’m not a fan of this style of rock across a whole project - however I know Caleb’s onto something and think one of the next albums he makes will be wall-to-wall incredible. Glad you guys like it though
I included them because the newest album (except for a couple clunkers) is very much in that same vein. But that's just my reference, haven't really listened to a lot of their older stuff.
Having heard their newest a couple times, I'm not sure where you're hearing that influence, but I'm not gonna fight you on it.
I think outside of Riptide, I Was Alive is gonna be the song I return to most outside of full album listens. I think they really just nailed it on that song.
