Matt is officially out (I’ve heard the alleged reason why but don’t want to share it here unless anything becomes public) and they have a new bassist

Doing a discog run today in light of the Pool Party festival being announced, and man this band just really hits every time. I think this last album was honestly pretty underrated, it's got so many great songs. Entropy, Oxygen, Karaoke, and Fire Escape are all some of the best she's done imo.

That being said, idk if 6 weeks will ever be topped for me, that song just gets me going. Hope the fest is a nice long set and we get some deep cuts from the early material.

I also keep forgetting I get to see them this month! (Well as long as the schedule for Adjacent works out)

Pool Party festival will be fun. I've seen The Beths and Charly Bliss this year and both put on really great shows, and Beach Bunny always kills it. I don't really know Elita but she seems cool from what I have seen when researching her.

It's a bummer that it seems most of her original band has left at this point. When I saw them last September, the only members that looked familiar were her and the drummer. Not sure how much they have to do with writing, but it makes me wonder if the rest of the band were either difficult to work with or didn't realize how much the band would blow up and touring life wasn't for them.

The only member who was left IIRC is guitarist Matt Henkels and I heard it was because of abuse allegations.

I've been revisiting this album this week and agree it's underrated. I would also throw "Weeds" into the list of songs you mentioned, probably my favorite on here.

Damn, that really sucks. I assume that Lili is the prominent songwriter so it's not a huge loss.

Lili has been pretty clear that this is her band and she is the sole creative force. Idk why Matt left beyond those rumors rumors but Anthony (the bassist for the last couple years) played their Lolla after show and opened the set with another band, so I assume if he actually left permanently, he's just choosing to pursue other stuff. Definitely didn't seem like bad blood at that time.

I think this person misunderstands the difference between a modern internet hit and a hit song maybe a few decades ago.

Prom Queen blew up for a small number of people that are highly online compared to a hit song that would ubiquitous on radio and in stars and commercials to the point where the general population would have a grasp on the song.

Songs that blow up on tik tok get millions of plays within the same audience for a short period of time. Its just hard to compare that a song a casual crowd would know really well like most of the examples he cites.

Copying what I said in the Pup thread:

I thought the concept of the article was cool but I do think the author was maybe a little too uninformed about Beach Bunny.

I obviously wasn’t at the show and maybe the above was the case but

    a) Every time I have seen them live (granted it’s been hometown shows) they’ve had lots of energy and the crowds go wild, and from clips I have seen of them on tour other crowds go very wild as well.

    b) I don’t know if comparing their stage presence to Pup or even Pool Kids is fair because they’re all completely different bands in different genres. Like sure, it makes for an interesting article and I thought the article concept was interesting, but I don’t know if there’s a need to compare the bands. Mixed genre bills can exist without every act having the same energy.

    Also

The above also goes along with my thought of the author being slightly misinformed about Beach Bunny because they’ve been playing with punk and emo bands for years. I saw them with Death Cab in 2019 and they’ve shared the stage with Alkaline Trio, Retirement Party, Remo Drive (Greatest Hits era), Ratboys, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, and others who are very much in the emo/punk scene.

I didn’t go to this tour but every time I’ve seen Beach Bunny live it’s been nuts. Once in Denver in 2020 and twice in Boston in 2022 and the crowds are always rowdy. There’s a wall of death for Painkiller. Maybe the crowd was different this time around but the energy is always there when I’ve seen them.

I’ll probably only be able to make it for The Beths and Beach Bunny, but I think I’ll still buy a ticket and go.

I have no idea how to sell my tickets since Ticketmaster has resale turned off, but I’m willing to transfer to someone for best offer as I’m in a hell week at work and am in no situation to deal with the weather.

As long as you can transfer it it would be pretty easy to sell on stub hub if you can’t find someone directly
