I love Vacancy. Lots of good songs. I like "Mary," but I probably like it less than most. "The Ghost" is the one for me.
Vacancy and Cult definitely feel like the ones that are uniformly at the bottom of people's discography rankings.
Vacancy fell pretty flat for me, but i think Pretty Vacant is an all timer as a song (one of my favorites of theirs), as well as Two Letters. I also really appreciated Anthony’s mindset on mental health in interviews and even his music at the time. Cult + Vacancy both were pretty bottom tier Bayside to me. Interrobang was sooo good. The new one was back to doing absolutely nothing for me, but I also hated the rollout with all of the various EP’s, and maybe didn’t give it a fair shot. also, I could have absolutely lived without Mary existing as a song.
I’d recommend giving the newest another go. The rollout wasn’t my favorite either, but there’s some really good stuff on there
There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive is my favorite of theirs...their songwriting is just so good on it. This band keeps getting better and better with each release.
Shudder and Vacancy are probably my bottom 2. I’ll jam both though, but easily the ones I go back to the least.
Cult is one I never get people being down on but whatever. Vacancy is easily my least listened to but still good.
Shudder, TWW, Killing Time top 3 for me (in that order). I rarely listen to anything else but enjoy Vacancy more than the others - It Doesn't Make It True is pure Bayside imo.
Still a tiny bit salty they played Indiana and Objectivist On Fire from Cult on their Errors Tour...I'm also not a huge fan of that album but there are a few really good songs on it, and they played those two instead.
