Bayside have been one of my favorites for 11 years. And Cult was their first record I was just okay with. Really hoping this grabs me like TWW, Killing Time or their self titled did.
I really liked Cult despite it not really being much of a departure. The band still innovates with key changes and some different time signatures throughout their albums so its enough to keep me happy. Still hoping Vacancy just blows me away though.
Top 10 tracks? Duality Mona Lisa Killing Time Dear Tragedy The Ghost Of St. Valentine Masterpiece I And I (Pop)Ular Science Dont Come Easy Transitive Property that was harder than I thought it'd be
It's Not a Bad Little War and Transitive Property would be my top two, not sure about the others though
I really wanted Little War in there but couldnt quite fit it in. Killing Time and TWW are my favorites but they still have a lot of top tier songs spread throughout their records which is great. Lots of good deep cuts, wish theyd play some of those live.
Montauk I And I The Walking Wounded Already Gone Blame It On Bad Luck Devotion & Desire Time Has Come Duality A Call To Arms Objectivist On Fire Something like that. The top three was really easy but the rest of it was like pulling teeth, haha.
In no particular order: Boy Dear Tragedy Already Gone Devotion and Desire Masterpiece Landing Feet First Killing Time The New Flesh Transitive Property Don't Call Me Peanut Wasn't easy.
think my next tattoo will be the Bayside bird logo to match my Thursday dove logo. Probably put it on mt left forearm since my Thursday tattoo is on my right one.
I Can't Go On They Look Like Strong Hands The Ghost of St. Valentine Boy What and What Not Killing Time Half a Life The Walking Wounded Dear Your Holiness Mona Lisa
Someone in this thread said the band said they experimented on this album and took their sound in new directions. That's still entirely possible but these new songs are very standard Bayside. I didn't mind that every album sounded the same until Cult, that's when it started to get old for me. Pretty Vacant is great, though.
I've listened to the new album enough to update my list: 1. Sirens and Condolences 2. Bayside 3. Killing Time 4. Vacancy 5. Shudder 6. Walking Wounded 7. Cult
I was washing my hands in the bathroom at work and Sinking And Swimming On Long Island came on so I started air guitaring the riff in the mirror and someone walked in on it I just really awkwardly dropped my hands and gave him and upnod and said "sup dude" oh god this is my greatest fear
I will air guitar or air drum a lot when I'm driving. Mostly when I am stuck in rush hour traffic and I'm just crawling along. If a ripper comes on I have no shame. If it's Halloween season then I may be wearing a ski mask or the scream mask while doing such things. I'm used to it haha.
Walking Wounded is probably their best songwriting of the bunch because the show tunes influence really shines, but the first two records have some fun moments. I think those records mean more to long time fans though, so I'm not sure how much a new fan will appreciate them.
My personal favorite is s/t. I think it's more consistent than TWW, just full of classic Bayside tunes.
